We also love our Southern Slavic authors! Our bookstore might be small on square feet, but we make up for it with the selection! See any favorite authors? Maybe an author you need to discover? Maybe authors you would like to see? #indiebookstore #foreignlanguages #translations #southslavic taken in Kensington Antique Row by @bergstrompress

The old saying about the frog and the pot of boiling water... Slowly heat the water and the frog keeps adjusting until it's too late. How do citizens of a country slowly get used to and tolerate something they would not have tolerated before? Censorship. Corruption. Blatant racism. If only someone had written a history about it .. They Thought They Were Free is one such book that needs to be read today taken in Kensington Antique Row by @bergstrompress

Shortlisted for the International Booker Prize, this novel by Daniel Kehlmann, "explores the complicated relationships and distinctions between art and power, beauty and barbarism, cog and conspirator." The novel is based on the life of G.W. Pabst, one of cinemas greatest directors, who, having returned to Austria to check on his ailing mother, finds himself trapped inside the Third Reich. In stock in translation and in the original German. #bookerprize #germanliterature #translations taken in Kensington Antique Row by @bergstrompress

Thank you to everyone who visited the bookstore today, supporting not only #IndieBookstoreDay, but also the #DCBookCrawl. ❤️ Hoping all our fellow bookstores had lots of visitors and remember, indie bookstores are vital to the country. Thank you to @AmericanBooksellers for continuing to advocate for indie bookstores and to help make this day a great day. And I hope we surprised a few people with our focus on Central and Eastern European languages and voices :) taken in Kensington Antique Row by @bergstrompress

A roller coaster of a film from East Germany. A tragicomic story of two star crossed lovers. Filmed in 1973, surreal, think Pierrot le Fou, and definitely, for an East German film, very politically incorrect, it became one of the most popular films in the GDR. The soundtrack with songs by The Puhdys also remains very popular. taken in Kensington Antique Row by @bergstrompress
