[AFF womenโ€™s cup ๐Ÿฅ‰]

the last 13 days werenโ€™t easy.

a lot was out of our control. last-minute changes from the organisers. the level 9 ghost. the water situation at the hotel (or lack of). drawing our opening game and putting ourselves in a tough spot. four games in 11 days. injuries. and then a 1 - 1 draw in our final game, with everything coming down to penalties.

that shootout took years off my life ๐Ÿ˜ซ
we missed before they did. then we clawed our way back. shak came up with a massive save. and suddenly, we were running, screaming and celebrating like champions.

because we felt like one.

we came here wanting to make the final. we didnโ€™t. that hurt. but this bronze medal wasnโ€™t given to us. we earned every bit of it. you must know this - a month ago, we got whooped by the same opponents. so this victory was especially sweet.

thank you to every player and staff member for making my first tournament with this team so memorable. iโ€™m so proud of this group. some thing is shifting; letโ€™s keep going ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿ  My family had humble beginnings. It wasnโ€™t easy at the start when they were building our home. We stayed in a tiny flat in the East, but both my parents were determined to make it work. Mom slogged hard as a secretary, while Dad spent years training and studying so he could move from an engineer role to being a pilot. That was when we started living comfortably.

It was something we took for granted and probably only began to realise when my Dad passed on almost 10 years ago. The largest part of our household income ceased to exist, along with him. It shook the equilibrium.

At that time, I was still doing a lot of odd jobs and unstable freelance work. So this new void hit me hard and left a hole in me. I spent the next few years largely trying to figure out this work ting, attempting to make meaning in life and grieving ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆฏโ€โžก๏ธ๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ

Through these years, my mom has been a rock. As a person, Iโ€™m more emotionally guarded and insouciant, and I usually keep it all in until the dam explodes. But whenever Iโ€™m most vulnerable, momma always tells me to do whatever makes me happy. I can go on and on about her grace and compassion, and all the lilโ€™ and big things she has done, but for now, I will leave it with these 3 images of us together :)

right now, maybe we have ten fans. twenty fans. maybe just a hundred.

but if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, and we keep planting all these little seeds with that same faith, earnestness and conscientiousness, then with time, the hundreds will grow. god willing.

for now, we sow. taken in Singapore / Singapura / ๆ–ฐๅŠ ๅก / เฎšเฎฟเฎ™เฏเฎ•เฎชเฏเฎชเฏ‚เฎฐเฏ by @berizified

one big win. one painful loss.

but those two results alone do not define our international window in bandung.

what this trip showed us is that we have standards that we want to uphold, and standards that we will continue raising every single day.

one thing that has made me esp happy is seeing coaches from diff wpl clubs come together, collaborate, and learn under the guidance of coach mihoko. iโ€™m also grateful for our newly formed medical team, an important cog in the system, whose care have made a real difference ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

and of course, to the players - i think we all know now that we have something worth fighting for. but building something meaningful takes all of us. it takes belief, commitment, and hard work, day after day.

so we keep going
together

if i had to begin this journey anywhere, i would still choose ๐™‚๐™š๐™ฎ๐™ก๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ, over and over again. it has challenged and stretched me in unimaginable ways, but more than that, it gave me the space to grow ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

there are far too many people to thank. from rishi, idi and the Ultras Eagles; to my bosses and forever helping hands sean & george; the players who trusted us but also gave me lots of work to do (you guys know who you are ๐Ÿค“); the parents and the boys who believed in this journey.

to the coaching team - thank you ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ we have weathered difficult moments together, but through it all this space has always remained healthy, honest, and grounded. i will miss this brotherhood and cold jokes dearly (but donโ€™t worry - iโ€™ll still be making stickers). coach noor, donโ€™t worry you can always call me if you need to find out how to (un)hide your excel sheets or require a backup #9

God surely has His plans, and in a way i did not quite foresee. the winds have shifted but i step into it with faith and conviction.

for now, with all the love in my heart, and all the grace i can muster - ๐™๐™๐™–๐™ฃ๐™  ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช, ๐™€๐™–๐™œ๐™ก๐™š๐™จ ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ’š taken in Eagles Nest by @berizified

Receiving this award for my grassroots work in AMK has prompted a quiet reflection ๐ŸงWhile this recognises a recent chapter, this journey began much earlier. At least 16 years ago?

Right from the classrooms at NUS, where we learned to deconstruct society; to looking critically at race, gender, class, and the structures that quietly shape our realities. That nurtured curiosity, and curiosity, once awakened, has a way of guiding you outward.

At 20, I found myself spending time at TWC2โ€™s The Cuff Road Project, connecting with South Asian migrant workers navigating injury, bureaucracy, and distance from home. What began as volunteering became something more human: friendship, listening, witnessing. Through that, I encountered extraordinary generosity, including Debby Fordyce who opened her home to injured workers with nowhere else to go. Those moments left an imprint :โ€™)

That curiosity eventually carried me further. To Bangladesh, to rural Rajasthan, to remote Thai islands, documenting lives for NGOs and learning, above all, humility โœจ Travel became less about movement and more about understanding how dignity, resilience, and kindness manifested across vastly different circumstances.

Back in +65, another unexpected teacher emerged in Mel, an ex-convict, a single mother of seven, unapologetically real. Through her community, I saw forms of solidarity that defied conventional ideas of privilege. I was let into a world so diff from mine. When my father passed, it was these very friends, many with little materially, who showed up firstโค๏ธโ€๐ŸฉนIf you were my friend during the 2013-2019 period, youโ€™d know how big a part of my life they were.

This recognition feels less personal than collective. If anything, it simply reminds me that none of us arrives here alone, we are shaped, continuously, by those who choose to walk alongside us. Iโ€™ve been lucky ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡ by @berizified

i donโ€™t often get this much time with my family, so these once-a-year trips feel especially sacred. this one was stitched together with Pokeฬmon card hunts (for the boys), endless eating and snacking, long days of walking, a little shopping and most of all, the quiet joy of being together, moving as one, laughing and keeping the two little monkeys happily entertained.

in the midst of the ordinary, there was grace.
