Nestled in a private hillside community with pristine views of the picturesque hills along the Carmel Valley, lies this handsome country home. Unlike the old-world modest homes that served as weekend retreats for city dwellers - this home has some of the European symmetry of those old world inspired homes, along with all of the bells and whistles that one would think to want in a forever home. Smart commercial tenant improvement project of a 70’s era building was made richer by using simple light and space. Thoughtful design in terms of creating large openings and allowing the true volume of the buildings interior to be on display for visitors as they approach the entry - creates a feeling, that one is approach something larger than life. #architecturalphotography #commericalinteriordesign #aia #commercialremodel #stairdesign #interiordesign #interiorarchitecture by @bernardopictures

George Washington Smith is perhaps the father of Spanish Colonial Revival or as some of my out of state friends have referred to as the “Santa Barbara Style”, Smith was a true renaissance man having had a career in finance, art and later architecture. Influenced by the rural landscape of Andalusia while living abroad, his designs can still be seen scattered throughout California as well as parts of the South-west and Gulf States. This early 20th century style that has been associated with old world Spain or Colonial Mexico is it’s own vernacular and archetypically Californian.

From the archives, last winter's photo journey through Los Angeles Theatre District.
The Eastern Columbia Building, also known as the Eastern Columbia Lofts, is a thirteen-story Art Deco building designed by Claud Beelman located at 849 S. Broadway in the Broadway Theater District of Downtown Los Angeles. It opened on September 12, 1930, after just nine months of construction. The Los Angeles Herald Examiner Building built in 1914 by Architect Julia Morgan is an archetypical Mission Revival building. #blackandwhitephotography #fujiphoto #architecturalphotography by @bernardopictures

I had the privilege to produce and help tell the AIA Silicon Valley’s story. The chapters celebrated its 75th year last month and a lot has happened in that time. Both in the world of architecture, technological innovations, the profession as well as the demographics of whom make up the profession. It was a privilege to interview a few of its long time members that have contributed to and helped shape the chapters legacy. A special thanks to Cameron Lazarri, Jane Becerra and Arnold Breit for their contribution to the project as well as all of the members for their candid memories of their experiences with the chapter. #aiasiliconvalley by @bernardopictures

Because it’s women in construction week and architect Julia Morgan New Construction better than many of her male counterparts. Her buildings and work have proved this as well as having had passed the test of time. She was really Goth. 🙏🏽 #architecturalphotography #architecture #womeninconstruction #juliamorgan #aia taken in Chapel of the Chimes Oakland Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services by @bernardopictures

Plaza de Cesar Chavez

An aerial view of the surrounding edifices that circle the outer perimeter of the park. Some of the building served as civic institutions others were erected during the redevelopment that occurred in the 1980’s and 90’s, some designed by world class architects.

The present-day park was the site of California's capitol from 1849 to 1851, a period during which the California Republic gained American statehood; hence, the site contained California's first state capitol. From 1889 to 1958, San Jose's city hall occupied the center of the park before the local government moved it northward to North First and Mission Streets. Today, San Jose City Hall is located nearby on Santa Clara Street.
