Route 66 Day X “Finished.”

Day 10 brought our trip to completion. We made it. 2,448 miles (+) from Chicago to Santa Monica. There’s still so much I need to process and journal about regarding the trip. For now, my thought is that I’m headed home with a sense of contentment. Of all my other trips, half way through the trip I’m already thinking of the next trip and the next bike to build to do that trip. Not so now. Something has shifted in me, and it feels good…Thank you to everyone who has supported me. Thank you to all the strangers that became friends along the way. Thank you to my amazing wife who held down the fort for over 2wks so I could do this trip. Thank you to everyone who donated to support Africa new life and feeding kids in Rwanda (more on that coming soon) Thank you to Jake and Josh who were the best road mates. Thank you to Kurt who joined us for a day and fed us pizza and gave us a place to stay in Illinois. Shoutout to our my salt lake mate, Jeff whose bike failed early in the trip and I’m sorry that the trip ended for you so soon. 😢 I’m tired, sore and my heart is full. See ya back in Boise. That’s enough for today. Peace.

Somehow the days just keep getting better on the road, yesterday we hit the 1 and 101 for a bit, the California coast is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen. Today Kenny tells me it’ll be the best riding and sights of the trip. Heading up the 1 through Big Sur, Kenny will stop in Carmel for the night. I plan to push at least to Merced today as I head back to Idaho. Hoping to be home by Saturday! Appreciate y’all following along and all the love along the way. 🖤⚡️🖤

Route 66 Day IX “My last tourist stop”

Day 9 started with breakfast: a deep-dish egg, biscuit, and sausage gravy breakfast from Mr. D’z. It was as good as it sounds. We headed out from Kingman, AZ, and the roads were awesome. Long stretches and parts that cut right through the mountains.
Our first stop was Oatman, AZ. The road was tight and twisty all the way up the mountain, and we stopped at the top to get a shot of the valley floor beneath. Oatman is a historic former gold-mining town in Arizona that transformed from a bustling 1915 boomtown into a popular tourist destination. After the mines closed and Route 66 was bypassed, the town nearly became a ghost town, but it has since reinvented itself by preserving its Old West character, maintaining a unique population of free-roaming wild burros, and hosting shootout reenactments. We didn’t have a chance to stay very long due to an incoming storm, but it is a cool spot if you’re ever in the area.
Our next stop was Roy’s Motel and Café in Amboy, CA. Amboy, California, began as a mining camp in 1858 and was formally established in 1883 as a railroad stop in the Mojave Desert. It grew into a small boomtown when Route 66 brought road traffic through the area, then declined sharply after Interstate 40 bypassed it in the early 1970s. In 1938, Roy’s Motel and Café opened and became the best-known roadside landmark in town.
This would be my last tourist stop on the list. Not gonna lie, I was a little emotional here, feeling the weight of all the miles passed and realizing that the trip was nearing completion. We made our way into Victorville, CA, and settled in for the night. Finish line tomorrow.

Route 66 Day VIII
“Rain, a new chopper friend, and the heart of Route 66.”

We woke up in Flagstaff to rain, and the forecast suggested that was the agenda for the day. We wanted to get out of the area because the storm was supposed to settle there for the next couple of days, so on with the rain gear. Riding a chopper with no front fender, you get a nice little stream of rain straight into your face—haha. Luckily, on my bike, it only happens below 20 mph; at higher speeds, the tank blocks most of the stream.
We powered through the 130 miles to Kingman. Once we got into town, we found ourselves a nice place to eat. @mr.dzrt66diner has been a staple in Kingman. I got the bacon mac and cheese hot dog, and it was as good as it sounds. Kingman has been my favorite town so far on the trip. The town’s motto is “The Heart of Historic Route 66.” You’ll find classic neon signage everywhere, along with a renovated downtown featuring painted murals on various buildings. You can really feel the pride of the locals here.
I woke up early to snag some bike shots with the various signs and murals. We met @jessidean222 , a guy on his Sportster chopper headed from California to Arkansas. With the impending weather, he grabbed a room at our motel. We all hung out for the rainy evening with football, pizza, and a beer. It was a good day. That’s enough for now. #ridemotorcycleshavefun #harleydavidsonmotorcycles #route66 #biketrip #kingmanarizona

Today was pretty all time, riding through Golden Valley to Oatman was something special and I hope y’all enjoy the small clip of it. We made it into California today after waiting out some rain Essex. I’m extremely sore and pretty beat from the road but the crew’s spirits remain strong and high. The end is in sight and it is a very bittersweet feeling. After Santa Monica we will all part ways and head towards home on our own. It’ll be nice to reflect on this trip on the almost 900 mile journey back to Idaho. Blessed to be able to make this trip and thank everyone who helped me do it. I love these dudes and it’s been a privilege to share the road with them. 🖤⚡️🖤

Route 66 Day VII

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” — Saint Augustine

Today we headed towards Albuquerque. This would be our first stop for the day. Old Town Albuquerque that is. I don’t what it is about this trip and me, but I’ve smoked 3 birds so far on my bike. What the heck? Sorry little fellas….Anywho, we got to Old Town Albuquerque. The central square is filled with little shops, restaurants and San Felipe de Neri Church. The original parish was founded in 1706 when the city was established. After heavy rains caused the original building to collapse in 1792, the current structure was built in 1793. I was headed inside to check it out but being a Sunday, they were in the middle of a service. We got some lunch at the Old Town Cafe. A local car club was showing off their cars so it was cool to shoot the breeze with them for a minute. We jumped back on the bikes and headed towards Winslow, NM. I snapped a photo of Rio Puerco Bridge outside Albuquerque. Built in 1933 with federal emergency funds during the Great Depression as part of the Laguna Cutoff. It officially became part of U.S. Route 66 in 1937. Today it’s decommissioned but the structure still remains. Cool piece of history on 66. We got wind of strong weather coming in this evening and when we got to Winslow we decided to keep moving to flagstaff which had a lot better stay options. We got in town just in time for the rain to hit. A bed and warm room to finish the day. That’s all for now.

Route 66 Day VI

“When you travel, you are forced to be in the present moment, which is the only place where true self-reflection can happen.” -said someone

We left Amarillo, headed straight for Cadillac Ranch. I’ve always read about this place. Stanley Marsh buried ten Cadillacs nose-first in the ground, originally as a playful statement about American car culture and the evolution of the Cadillac tailfin. After we all tagged our unique mark on a car, we headed toward Midpoint Café. As you may guess, that’s the midpoint of Route 66—1,139 miles under our tires so far. Midpoint still has a fully functioning diner there with home-cooked goodies. I opted for the biscuits and gravy, and the local gift shop had a pair of Route 66 pants I couldn’t resist buying.
The roads were long and desolate at this point in the trip. It’s here that you have plenty of time to think and process about deep internal things, as there is nothing vying for my attention. God always uses bike trips to bring new wisdom, healing and restoration to parts of me and my story. We finished the day in Santa Fe, NM, and upon getting into town, another biker saw us and whipped around, following us to our hotel just to meet us and say ‘what’s up.’ His name was Jonny; he was a fireball, hehe. Thanks for stopping, dude. That’s one thing I love about motorcycles—they bring people together from all walks of life. You want to make fast friends? Ride a motorcycle, hehe. That’s enough for now.
