I reached a point where choosing myself was no longer an option it was a necessity.

For so long, I stayed quiet. I stayed understanding. I stayed patient, even when it cost me my peace, my confidence, and my sense of self. I kept choosing love, loyalty, and forgiveness, hoping that one day it would be enough. Hoping that choosing others over myself would somehow make things right.

But it didn’t.

Choosing myself wasn’t easy. It meant facing the fear of being misunderstood. It meant letting go of people, habits, and versions of life that were familiar but deeply painful. It meant accepting that love should never require me to shrink, beg, or lose myself just to be kept.

I learned that choosing myself doesn’t mean I stopped loving others. It means I finally stopped abandoning myself. It means I chose peace over chaos, clarity over confusion, and self-respect over temporary comfort.

There was guilt at first. Guilt for saying no. Guilt for setting boundaries. Guilt for walking away from situations that hurt me even when I cared deeply. But healing taught me something important, guilt fades when you realize you’re protecting your heart, not punishing anyone.

So today, I choose myself not out of anger, but out of love. Love for the person I am becoming. Love for the peace I deserve. Love for the life that doesn’t require me to bleed just to belong.

This is me choosing healing.

This is me choosing growth.
