Amongst the early FMP players, I was probably most drawn to the music of Gunter Christmann. A wonderful trombonist, cellist, film-maker, and free-improvisation conceptualist.

I first met him on a 1995 Company Week in Vancouver (an odd one since Derek Bailey had to pull out at short notice) - and then was lucky enough to join 4 of his Vario projects, the last, for me, in 2014.

Gunter runs the label "edition explico" - with many of the CDs produced in short runs with unusual hand made covers and long since sold out.

Fortunately Corbett vs. Dempsey (with Michael Greiner) have recently been releasing the whole catalogue digitally. A brilliant initiative.

Had the chance to work with Mariam Rezaei on Monday, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. A session for Late Junction (BBC Radio 3) - to be broadcast next Friday (24th).
