She lay in wait patiently even if it was just for a Guinea Fowl. A little snack to keep her going. A hard won snack though with all the messy feathers to remove first! Made for some great viewing and photography though. taken in South Luangwa National Park by @berrybun

#InternationalWildDogDay
When you first spot those ears just above the grass tops or spot the unique tri-colour flash briefly, you know you are eagerly hoping you’ve spotted right! The Wild Dogs are always always such a thrill. So unique, so scarce, so scarily few. And when they are on their feet, such a joy to watch, so playful, so energetic, so utterly social…… until they suddenly stop….. to stare….like in picture 3.
And then the thrill begins. When the group fast trot turns into a steady fast paced run and the strategy evolves. Master hunters with a highest success rate amongst predators these Wild Dogs are something else.
Watched this pack of 19 as the sun started to go down in the Okavango Delta.

While I’ve only got the Lion here, it was a lovely dusk time viewing with the whole pride of Lions including cubs

#WorldElephantDay I watched Elephants cross the Luangwa river everyday during our stay. I filmed/photographed the crossings every time. Slow, steady, purposeful, confident, even elegant. Their wisdom, compassion, intelligence and memory is legend. My awe only grows each time. The largest land animal remains my all time favourite. 🐘🩶

You can’t be waterside on safari and not hear the distinct call of a Fish Eagle 🦅 In fact every time I hear it, it makes me smile (even broader than I already am) because I know I’m in Africa. I’d like to think I made a friend! This Vervet monkey would make its way to the lowest branch (and never further than that) and watch me with immense curiosity, throwing tiny twigs and leaves at me if I looked away or got busy reading my book. Behind our tent was this little semi-dry lagoon teeming with huge variety of birds, Baboons, Bush bucks, even the occasional Lion (yes!), Leopard (resident) and Giraffe. This sequence with the Southern Ground Hornbills came as we returned from a game drive one morning. Just so much action in the backyard literally.

#WorldLionDay for these apex predators. May they thrive, may they rule, may their generations continue to have the space they need. May their amber eyes continue to burn with intensity so unique to Lions, may they continue to mesmerize us. May sense prevail and we all learn to protect them even better.
