Looking for things to do in Chiang Mai beyond the usual tourist spots?

This hidden day trip combines Doi Nok Temple and Mae Sap Cave, just over an hour from Chiang Mai in the Samoeng area.

Start your day at Doi Nok, a 500-year-old Lanna temple surrounded by jungle with incredible mountain views. During the cooler months, it's one of the best places near Chiang Mai to watch a sea of clouds at sunrise.

Then head to Mae Sap Cave, where you can explore four unique limestone caves, including Rainbow Cave, Emerald Cave and Diamond Cave. Entry is just 140 THB, including a helmet and head torch.

Chiang Dao might be the most underrated place in Northern Thailand 🇹🇭

This is one of my favourite routes for escaping the city and exploring northern Thailand.

Start at Wat Phra That Doi Kham, one of Chiang Mai's most beautiful hilltop temples. Then head to River Rock Café for coffee surrounded by nature before continuing into the mountains around Mon Cham.

Finish the day at Windy Hill Restaurant, where you'll find sweeping views across the valleys and some of the best scenery near Chiang Mai.
