Making Birmingham a safer place through education, harm reduction awareness, and inclusivity 💖
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It's back!

Frills & Flannel’ is a gender affirming clothing swap for all ages of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. The idea is to create a space for folks to swap the clothes that don’t spark joy with clothing that is affirming and aligns with their gender identity. With increased attacks on the trans community and multiple dangerous bills targeting LGBTQ+ lives going through Alabama legislation, this swap is dedicated to trans joy and the human right to exist.

Saturday, September 5th
1pm-4pm
@mcacbham
Parking is free on side streets & in their lot on 32nd St S

Bring in a MAX (no big bags of clothes please) of 5 items (clothes, accessories, shoes, etc) & swap them for 5 new to you items!

Clothes will be sorted by size and not gender. Clothes leftover will be donated to @baobhm!

Gender affirming items are HIGHLY requested (it's also our whole thing) so binders, sealed/new makeup, etc

If you are in need of clothes, tell check-in Matcha sent you and there's no need to bring in anything.

As always, we'll have free safety supplies, resources, and a craft area. @smolbean.wav is bringing the tunes from 1-3pm

If you'd to volunteer, our signup link is in our bio :) We're also looking for queer/trans artists/crafters that would like to donate a prize for a raffle drawing (ticket proceeds will go towards the next F&F) And if you have any relevant skills in fashion/gender-affirming care/makeup/etc and would like to share your skills, we'd love to connect!

We are SO excited to bring our favorite event back in a better space (with AC) and even more excited to be working with MCAC! The space is wheelchair accessible. Send us a DM if you have any accessibility requests! taken in Magic City Acceptance Center by @besafebham

We're looking for volunteers!!! Help is needed for B.A.S.S. tables, social media, education efforts, community outreach, promotion, and more. If you're interested, our volunteer form is in our linktree (in our bio)

important !!! We are aiming to narrow down our 'board' in March so we can officially file for nonprofit status and be able to do more ~professional~ things. Nonprofit filing requires that we have a board and we're trying to keep this as grassroots as possible, so if you're on the leadership team you'll help run a committee, attend leadership meetings (once a month & virtual/hybrid), and collaborate with other people on the board to meet our goals. Just DM me (Allyssa @yolobinch or here or say hi whenever you see me at an event) if you're interested 😇 by @besafebham

It takes a village to build safe spaces! ✨

We are in the stage of seeking out B.A.S.S. Buddies to help us out at Awakenus 2026! We need compassionate, proactive volunteers that value the community spaces we inhabit to help us and the @awakenus_festival team co-create another safe festival experience!

B.A.S.S. Buddies help support the first aid volunteers and safety teams by being proactive and roaming the festival grounds, offering community care to those in need, and providing harm reduction resources for anybody who asks. ⛑️

Each B.A.S.S. Buddy shift is 2 hours long, and Buddies travel in pairs! Volunteering is a great opportunity to connect with the community, and make some new friends through interacting with other Awakenus attendees.

You can sign up for shifts at volunteersignup.org/WBHE4 or via the link in the @BeSafeBham bio! taken in Bohamia by @besafebham

Frills & Flannel Gender Affirming Clothing Swap: Fall Edition

Sunday, September 28th
1pm-4pm
@trimtabbrewing Warehouse
All ages | Free

Swap out clothes that don’t spark joy with clothes that fit your own vibe. Clothes and items aren’t grouped together by gender—just by size and type!

Frills & Flannel is more than a clothing swap! It is an opportunity to connect and find solace in community with our queer & trans siblings and allies. In the midst of chaos, we refuse to give up hope and our joy. While the government is trying to shove our community back into the closet, Frills & Flannel is our way of saying we’re here, queer, and not going anywhere. The Frills & Flannel closet is filled with kindness, acceptance, and community care.

How to swap:
- bring in 5 items (clothes, accessories, costumes 🎃, affirming items, etc) and swap them for 5 items
- Mingle, hangout, and play a few games with @plantcadia for a bit of fun
- Checkout our B.A.S.S. Table to learn about narcan, emergency contraception, and community resources
- Make some crafts at our free craft/kandi table (thx @bhamwubz)

Frills & Flannel is also a free thrift store! You’re not required to bring in items to receive clothes. At check in, tell us “Halloween” and we’ll give you tickets to exchange at checkout for free no questions asked!

We’ve been a liiiitle behind on posting, but if you have anything special or more than 5 items you think would make a great fit for Frills & Flannel we’ll be at Trimtab Saturday from 1-4pm for donation drop off.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Check in, check out, refreshments, craft table, sorters, etc. We’d love to have you - send us a Dm if you’re interested

If you have any questions, accessibility needs you’d like us to address, send us a DM! by @besafebham

@CripCampFilm is a story of how teens w/ disabilities became revolutionary
activists and shaped a culture of love, pride and self-acceptance. Join B.A.S.S. for our screening to discuss their impact and how we, as a community, can do more to advocate for accessibility and support disabled lives.

Tuesday July 29th
6-10pm
Prescreening discussion starts at 6:30 Screening begins at 7pm
Group discussion & workshop to follow screening

Free! Open to all ages

Screening Accessibility:
We are currently working on getting assistive technology for live captions for the discussions. Captions and audio descriptions will be on during the movie. Please be mindful of strong scents as they can be bothersome to those with asthma and sensory sensitivity. We will have fidgets, notepads, nametags, and light refreshments! Signs will also be posted to direct you to the screening.

Please send us a DM or email us at bass.bham@gmail.com if you have questions or an accommodation need.

“Crip Camp is both a gripping look at the history of the disability rights
movement and a timely call to action, urging us to explore our own duty
to fight for the dignity of all people.”
 – President Barack Obama, Executive Producer

SUPER excited for this!!! B.A.S.S. is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization with a majority of our volunteers identifying as disabled or neurodivergent. We STRONGLY believe in 'Nothing about us, without us' - something that's a huge theme in this documentary!

Frills & Flannel Gender Affirming Clothing Swap: Pride Month Edition 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Sunday, June 29th
1pm-4pm
@trimtabbrewing Warehouse
All ages | Free

Swap out clothes that don’t spark joy with clothes that fit your own vibe. Clothes and items aren’t grouped together by gender—just by size and type!

For us, the swap is an opportunity to connect and find solace in community with our queer & trans siblings and allies. Pride month isn’t just about rainbows and parades. It’s a protest against the harassment, discrimination, and bigotry against queer and trans people. In 2025, the original purpose of Pride is strongly felt. While the government is trying to shove LGBTQ+ folks back into the closet, Frills & Flannel is our way of saying we’re here, queer, and not going anywhere. The Frills & Flannel closet is filled with kindness, acceptance, and community care.

Beyond the swap, there will be:
🎶@smolbean.wav with some Lofi/chill tunes
🧵A kandi/craft table
🦺 FREE safety supplies and community resources
And more!!!

To participate in the swap, bring in a MAX of 10 items. We have plenty of warm weather clothing, so you don’t have to bring anything in to shop!!! (yassss free store)

While we’d love to make this swap larger and a bit extra for Pride month, we are being cautious with the summer heat. We’ll have free water and a mini cooling station (and plenty of fans) 🥵

Super exciting and busy weekend! The night before we have our first B.A.S.S.-ically Pride Rave! Link to tickets in our bio.
