Another ESEA Heritage Month has come to a close and we hope you’ve had a good one! A huge thank you to everyone who took part, attended and supported 👏🏼 As a last offering for the month, we’d love you to listen to the final* episode of this year’s Chaotic Good (Enough) ESEAHM podcast featuring the cast and crew of a new upcoming documentary... On 14 November in London, a group of Filipino women are staging a beauty pageant - but not just any pageant. All the contestants are survivors of trafficking and modern slavery, reclaiming the stage and beauty on their own terms. Binibining Migrante, meaning “Miss Migrant” in Tagalog, is at the heart of ‘In Our Beauty’, a bold new documentary being shaped collaboratively with members of the United Domestic Workers Association (@udwafdwauk ). I chatted with domestic worker activist Lorgie, creative producer Francesca Humi @sahangganan and director Aria Danaparamita @decolonialdaughter about how this idea came to be, how the UDWA rescues and supports victims of human trafficking, why this documentary is necessary and their essential beauty tips 💅🏽 . While the month of September is over, collective action and solidarities with interconnected struggles worldwide continue. Let’s keep donating to support the women of UDWA in their work. Best of luck to all the ladies with the pageant! Link in bio to listen 🎧 *final for ESEAHM but not for the series 👀 follow the show for updates by @besea.n
Unravelling has come to an end! Last week we gathered in @seesawspace 's basement space for the exhibition's closing event which fell on the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. We were joined by so many people and thankful for the interest and support of this creative community of creatives with shared East Asian/South East Asian heritage 💚 After a year of running a digital community group, I noticed how many talented people were not sharing their work or seeking to showcase new ideas. One year later, December 2025,I started this project by pulling as many people as I possibly could together. I am amazed how time flies from working with 17 other artists over 9 months. This has been my first time going solo on producing, coordinating, curating and exhibiting a month-long show and big closing event and really proud of the outcome. Thank you to everyone who attended -the soft opening, exhibition duration and Mid Autumn Moon Festival, purchased an artwork and/or prints. One last thank you to the exhibiting artist: @chaqpie @ceramics_playground Erica Pham @artworkbyafay @byhathaikan @hiu_manista @rooftop_posts @iggieillustrate @sminspiring_art @jamescheung.hk @jensenchung @jdp_street @kadebruh.squid248 @Kelly_Ma_ @li_si_ceramics @meiyukwong4286 @raeinksy @wyindesign Thank you to @besea.n for supporting this project with the Peiwen Legacy Fund Additional thanks to @kasumi.bakery for handling the swarm of people which led to all the cakes being gone in 15 minutes, @issabellaso for being a fantastic Karaoke MC and @julianlaww for capturing this special event Lastly, thank you to @t.aome from SEESAW for the support and creating a safe welcoming space for this community 💚 This isn't the last you'll see from this group as I'm sure we'll come together again but, in the meantime, support their practices and engage with their work! 📸 @julianlaww #eseaheritage #exhibition #greatermanchester #visualart #curation by @besea.n

I can’t believe I’m actually about to say this, but Ghost Town is coming to UK cinemas this October! It has been a long, long road, starting in 2018 when I read a short newspaper article about taxi drivers in northeast Japan picking up passengers who later disappeared. The idea stuck, and set in motion a film to explore myth, memory, life and death through the transient bond created between taxi drivers and their passengers. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of it and who has supported it along the way. The people make the film, and there is a hugely talented bunch on this one - including drivers Konno, Goto, Koike and Iwasaki; the Japan team @shiori_ito.films @shiho6.jp and (unofficially!) Matsuda; and everyone who took a chance and took a ride. Thank you @takatsunamukai for your patience with translation, @jamiequantrill for beautiful cinematography, @simon.panayi.sound.design for extraordinary sound, @johnmister7 for editing prowess, @leah.borromeo for partner-in-crime support, @Isabellakajiwara for building the connections to bring the film into the world, and @shemakesproductions for helping keep it all together, even when it felt impossible. Our UK premiere will be at the ICA on the 27th October at 8.30pm. Please do come - we would love to see you. Next weekend, as part of @o.f.f.s.h.o.o.t.s and in collaboration with @esea.filmnight we’re bringing two films by @ray.yeung.filmmaker to the Centre. With this year’s @besea.n theme for ESEA Heritage Month, “evolving threads” in mind, we invite you to revisit these stories of queer elders, and think about those who came before us and how we can continue to look after them in the ever-changing landscape of activism, as we carry the torch passed on to us. Catch us on Friday 25th September for a screening of Suk Suk (Twilight Kiss) On Saturday 26th September, join us for a screening of All Shall Be Well, and a post-screening Q&A with Dir. Ray Yeung and producers Chowee Leow and Stan Guignon. See you there 🧵 by @besea.n
New podcast episode drop! 🔔 This week we spoke to Ingrina (she/her), one of the volunteer organisers for @eseaoutdoorsuk, a grassroots collective that has been holding several activities across September all over the UK. We chatted about access to green spaces for marginalised folks, safety and care in collectivism, the impact of roaming on mental and physical health and the unexpected adventures that happened when *someone* suggested a sunrise hike in the Lake District. Chaotic Good (enough) meets the volunteers organising ESEA Heritage Month events. It’s about not having it all figured out and the challenges of world building amidst societal rupture, seeking to bring together the threads of hope in a system that wants us to stop. As part of ESEA Heritage Month, @besea.n and @protectionapproaches are running a free Active Bystander Training, funded by Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern Railway. This free, two hour training aims to empower people to take action to prevent or reduce harm when they encounter hate crime. The expert-led sessions guide participants through a series of discussions, exploring how they can safely address identity-based harms in their community, school, or workplace. 🌱🧵Seed and Pod Sewing Workshop Led by folk artist Zariq Rosita-Hanif @zariq_rositahanif Exploring the connection between heritage and home, this workshop took inspiration from the seeds and pods thriving along local footpaths, parks, and verges. Carried across oceans, these plants reflect our own journeys of new beginnings and rerooting in new soil. Youth and Elders from the Oxford Chinese Community learnt the traditional openwork joining stitch randa (or fagoting) to join two pieces of fabric - one honoring their heritage, and the other representing life in Oxford. Embellished with hand-stitched seeds and pods, these fabric “houses” symbolically bring both together under one roof. We had fun activating the space at East Oxford Community Centre! Thanks to Oxford Chinese Community and Advice Center (OCCAC) for their support with outreach, translation, and snacks. And thanks to Zariq for sharing her journey into wild seeds, textile origins, and shared migrant stories while leading an engaging creative session. The finished pieces feature in ‘Threads of Home’ exhibition for ESEA Heritage Month 📍Fusion Arts Window Galleries, Friar’s Entry, Oxford ⏰1st – 30th September 2026, available to view 24/7 Organised by Fusion Arts, “Threads of Home” features new works by three Oxford-based ESEA artists - Lucy Foo, Thomas Li, and Kit Hui Teo, alongside the history & work of OCCAC. 💕 This workshop was supported by @besea.n Peiwen Legacy Fund. #eseaheritagemonth #evolvingthreads #threadsofhome26 #eastandsoutheastasianheritagemonth #fusionartsoxford by @besea.n
Unravelling is open! Thank you to everyone who came to the 'soft opening' of Unravelling last week, we were amazed by how many people showed up to support us 💚 Organized and curated by @sminspiring_art , Unravelling is a group exhibition which unravels a selection of connections that shape the perspectives of East Asian/South East Asian (esea) heritage and identity within Greater Manchester.
