I’m so proud and humbled to share that I’ve been named Entrepreneur of the Year at the West Country Women Awards 🎉

A huge thank you to Tess, Alexis, and their incredible team for organising such a fantastic event and for their dedication to championing women across the region. The evening was inspiring, and it was a privilege to celebrate alongside so many talented women.

✨ A little reintroduction ✨

Hello if you’re new here and a warm hello again if we’ve been connected for a while.

I’m Alison, founder of Bespoke + Local. I curate thoughtful, luxury gift boxes that celebrate life’s moments while championing the incredible artisans and makers across Devon.

My journey here has been a slightly winding one - from law in London, to teaching in Wimbledon, and eventually settling in Devon where Bespoke + Local was born from a love of meaningful gifting and supporting small creative businesses.

At the heart of what I do is the belief that gifts should feel personal. Whether it’s celebrating a milestone birthday, thanking valued clients, welcoming guests, or marking a special moment in someone’s life, every Bespoke + Local gift box is thoughtfully curated to reflect the story behind the gift.

When I’m not working on gift lists or packing boxes, you’ll usually find me juggling family life with my two boys, enjoying Devon’s beautiful coast and countryside.

The best wedding experiences are often made up of thoughtful details.

From the first welcome to the final farewell, it’s often the little things that help shape how a couple remembers their experience.

A beautifully considered gift can be part of that story.

For wedding venues, gifting can be a way to extend the experience beyond the ceremony itself. A thoughtful keepsake can create a lasting connection to the place they chose to celebrate.

For me, the most meaningful gifts are never just a collection of lovely things. They have a reason for being there and feel personal, considered and memorable.

Sometimes, long after the wedding day itself, it’s those little details that are remembered most.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, and to Tom and Lily for including me in such a fantastic event.

It was wonderful to meet so many couples, along with your friends and family, and, as always, a real pleasure to catch up with and chat to so many amazing wedding suppliers too.

Artisan Stories – @bethosment.textiles 🌿

There’s something lovely about the way nature can bring a sense of calm and connection to our everyday lives, and this is something that sits at the heart of Beth Osment’s textile work.

I asked Beth to tell me a little more about her inspiration and creative process, and I loved hearing how her daily walks and observations of nature find their way into her work.

Here’s what Beth had to say…

“ I find inspiration in nature and create calming textiles inspired by restorative elements of nature, such as flow in nature, the seasons and cycle of the moon. I became interested in the ways that our environment can be restorative for us when I studied and worked as a Landscape Architect. My quilt designs represent ideas surrounding us in nature which ground and comfort us, such as the cyclical repetitive motions of the tides, flow of streams, seasons, moon cycle, and growth of plants. I think about these ideas whilst on daily dog walks in nature. I draw out these elements and create graphic representations through my patchwork quilting.

I also like to capture the specialness of the simplest of daily nature, such as a vase of seasonal blooms or a cherished houseplant. Ideas for these pieces come from daily observations of seasonal plants or plants in my house, depending on what detail I notice or what catches my eye. Looking for details in nature also helps to ground us in nature and the seasons, helping to make us more aware of cyclical change and feel part of something greater.”

✨ Introducing @abeliasart ✨

One of the things I love most about Bespoke + Local is discovering wonderful artisans and then having the opportunity to get to know the people behind the work.

I first discovered Annabelle’s work online and instantly loved it. I was then lucky enough to meet Annabelle in person at the beautiful @pirzwell_barn , where we were both exhibiting at their recent wedding fair, and we just clicked.

It was also such a treat to see Annabelle’s live illustration in person. Watching her work was incredible! She has such a talent for capturing people and moments in a way that feels so personal.

Here’s a little introduction…

“Abelia’s Art is the work of Annabelle, a Devon-based illustrator who creates hand-drawn artwork full of character, detail and warmth.

Her work spans bespoke commissions, illustrated calendars and prints celebrating the landscapes of Devon and beyond – from rolling moorland and coastal views to the places that hold special meaning for the people who love them.

Annabelle is also a live events illustrator, bringing her pens and paints to weddings and events across the South West. Working in the moment, she captures guests over the course of an event, for memories and keepsakes that last long after the day is over.

I love working with wedding venues, curating a selection of bespoke gifts to congratulate their newlyweds.

I love creating something that feels personal to the couple and meaningful to receive. Each gift tells a story, reflects the people it has been chosen for and becomes part of the memories of the day.

I also love building relationships, and those relationships are at the heart of Bespoke + Local.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes of me preparing a selection of gifts to showcase to a new wedding venue.

I love having the opportunity to introduce venues to the wonderful artisans I work with, share their stories and show how bespoke gifting can add something really special to the experience they create for their couples.

The last three years have been about building Bespoke + Local, discovering wonderful artisans, curating thoughtful gifts and building relationships with the people who make it all possible.

As I look ahead, I’m excited to place an even greater focus on partnerships with wedding venues.

Working with venues to create thoughtful gifting experiences for their couples and guests, bring artisan collaborations to life and help make the experience they create feel even more personal.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of some beautiful gift boxes I curated for a wedding venue to gift to each of their couples.

Bespoke, locally crafted gifts, carefully chosen to feel personal and meaningful to each couple, and to become part of their experience with the venue.

I love the idea that gifting can be more than a lovely gesture. It can become part of the story a venue creates for its couples, while also introducing them to wonderful local artisans and the stories behind what they make.

I’m really excited about this next chapter and the relationships and partnerships it might bring.

Artisan Stories | @tappermade

Meet Sophia - chemist, creator and maker of ocean-inspired haircare and skincare. Sophia’s love of the sea is at the core of all her products.

In these photos you can see Sophia busy in her Exeter studio:
“Here I’m making seaweed soap. It’s one of my best-selling soaps. Customers say they love the look, feel and smell of it. It also brings them a little slice of the sea every time they use it.”

Sophia’s background in chemistry gives her the knowledge and skills to formulate her own products, combining her love of creating with her passion for the sea.

And I can personally vouch for her haircare too. I’ve been using Sophia’s shampoo and conditioner and absolutely love them, so much so that the whole family now uses them! My hairdresser has even commented on how good the condition of my hair is, and I genuinely put that down to Sophia’s shampoo. And the conditioner smells incredible!
