The Way We Live - Design: A few detail shots from the Brooklyn loft we designed and built.

I love the mixture of textures and colors we were able to play with here. The combination of vintage pieces and contemporary artists and artisans made the space feel so warm.

Ground floor flat —

We transformed the original ground-floor living and dining spaces into a self-contained, two-bedroom garden flat. All internal walls were removed to create the new layout. At the front, the principal bedroom has an en suite, while a full-sized second bedroom is served by a separate bathroom with a bath and shower. A WC is tucked beneath the stairs, and a utility room provides additional practical space. A pocket door separates the bedrooms and bathrooms from the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area at the rear.

A 5 m-long side extension and a 4 m-long rear extension accommodate the new living and dining space. This brought the ground floor area to 117 m². The courtyard brings natural light deeper into the flat, complemented by rooflights running the full length of the side extension and two additional rooflights in the rear extension.

A little something different from our usual posts on here, but a project that feels very close to our hearts. 🤎

When we first started sharing our home on Instagram, it was born from a shared love of old buildings, their history, their character and the stories held within their walls. So it feels only right to share with you our latest labour of love, the restoration and renovation of a beautiful Victorian chapel, just down the road from us in Adderbury.

For the past six months, this rather special old building has occupied an enormous amount of our time, energy and thoughts, which might also explain why things have been a little quieter than usual over here!

Built in 1893, the chapel had sadly closed its doors, and we were determined to give it a new lease of life. Our ambition from the very beginning was to preserve as much of its original character as possible, celebrate the craftsmanship of those who built it, and sensitively introduce everything needed to ensure it has a sustainable and exciting future.

From restoring original woodwork and stained glass to sourcing reclaimed materials, traditional fittings and beautiful British-made pieces, almost every decision has been guided by our love and respect for this wonderful old building.

We hope these before and after photographs offer a little glimpse into just how much love, care and attention to detail has gone into bringing it back to life.

More than anything, we wanted to ensure this lovely piece of local history could continue to stand proudly at the heart of the village for many, many years to come, with its doors open and a new purpose for the community to enjoy.

Old buildings deserve to be loved, lived in and, wherever possible, given another chapter in their story. We feel incredibly fortunate to have played a small part in writing this one… @adderburychapel 🤎 taken in Adderbury, Oxfordshire by @bespoketaps
