POSTS STORIES REELS

I was working on a design this week when a memory from Rome came back to me ~ these butterflies on the ceiling at Villa Medici.

This is why I travel. Art, places, and little details stay with you, then find their way into something entirely new.

Villa Medici is home to the Académie de France à Rome, which welcomes artists, writers, and researchers through its residency programs. This ceiling is by Italian artist Claudio Parmiggiani, commissioned in 2015 for the Room of Loves. His butterfly panels occupy the spaces where earlier paintings were deliberately burned in the 1700s because Cosimo III de’ Medici considered them too risqué.

Centuries later ~ butterflies. There is something so beautiful about that.

During the tour, I was completely enthralled. Then this week, while designing an office, I thought: what if we brought butterflies to the ceiling?

That is the magic of design for me. Something you experience far away becomes the beginning of something close to home. If I can bring a little of Rome, art, and beauty into someone’s everyday life ~ that feels like part of my purpose. 🤍

I was recently working on a design and this travel inspiration came up. This is why I love to travel and get inspired for design. Travel is learning about and understanding the world more and in design we use that to create and make spaces speak to others. To light up your heart and make you feel things. That is the purpose of design. To make your space feel how you want it.

So story about this ceiling is this is at Villa Medici and if you go to Rome I recommend you going here. Académie de France à Rome—the French Academy has a residency program there where the students get to do work and these ancient paintings on the ceiling had gone awry so an artist painted over them these butterflies. Anyways during the tour I was so enthralled with this idea and then this week I was working on a design and this came to my mind ~ and I thought let’s do butterflies on the ceiling in the office space … this is the magic. The magic of the world and of design. And if I can bring just a piece of Rome and art and beauty to my town ~ then that is it for me to me it feels like that is part of my purpose 🤍🤍🤍

The last three women I’ve helped designed kitchen cabinetry for have all used black. Starting to think my real job is helping clients embrace their inner witch. 🖤

No but really if you want help tapping into and defining your personal aesthetic I’m your girl and I am not stuck on any color ~ just what speaks to the space / design and you ! Also all three women totally different aesthetic and totally different cabinet design ~ however black cabinets is the best choice for them. IMO

Let me to introduce myself!

There are some new faces here, so I thought I’d share a little more about the person behind Bessa Interiors.

I’m Megan, and I’m launching my own studio after—drumroll—26 years immersed in the world of design, beginning with starting studying design in school in 2000.

Since then, I’ve worked for large companies like Anthropologie, local designers, luxury resorts, and custom home builders. I’ve helped establish studios, led projects, and mentored other designers. I even created my own textile line. Some of those years meant working part time while being a full-time mom. Each chapter has shaped what I’m bringing to Bessa.

Over time, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of my process, my creativity, and the people I do my best work with.

You might be one of them if you want something different but aren’t quite sure how to bring it together. You have ideas, things you love, and perhaps a few unexpected pieces—but you need someone who can see the thread connecting them.

You appreciate originality, thoughtful materials, and a home with personality. You want it to feel relevant for years, with room to evolve. And you want someone you trust to guide the decisions and carry the work through.

That’s where I come in.

My strength is understanding people, style and design. I specialize in finding the unexpected elements that belong in their spaces. I love color, texture, and contrast, but I also value restraint: knowing what a room needs, what makes it stronger, and when it’s complete.

I love working with my clients. Being invited into someone’s space and vision, being trusted with their investment, and asked to help shape how they live or use the space is something I deeply respect.

Bessa is for people who want a space that feels personal, considered, and a little unexpected.

I’m so glad you’re here.

WHEN HOME BECOMES MORE

More personal. More expressive. More a part of how you want to live.

A room that makes you linger. A table that brings people together. An unexpected detail that delights you every time you see it.

I’m interested in what happens when a home begins to reflect the person living there—their taste, their stories, their everyday rituals.

When beauty becomes something you live with. When the space around you feels like your own. by @bessa__interiors

RULE #1 IN INTERIOR DESIGN: HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER.

Your home, office, building, boutiques are more than a collection of beautiful things. It’s where you live, gather, rest, create memories, and experience life. It should be designed for the human who lives in it—not just the photograph.

A great interior designer does more than select furniture and choose colors. We create spaces with intention, purpose, and personality.

✨ What does an interior designer actually do?

• Designs for the human — how you live, move, feel, and function in your space.
• Creates cohesion — bringing architecture, textures, colors, lighting, and furnishings together seamlessly.
• Maximizes your investment — making thoughtful decisions that prevent costly mistakes and unnecessary purchases.
• Solves problems — from awkward layouts to lighting challenges and underutilized spaces.
• Sources the extraordinary — unique materials, custom furnishings, distinctive pieces, and finishes that make a home yours.
• Manages the details — coordinating selections, vendors, trades, and the many moving parts of a project.
• Brings the vision to life — transforming an idea into a thoughtfully executed, functional, and beautiful environment.

Because luxury isn’t simply what you see. It’s how a space makes you feel. It’s the details you notice, the functionality you appreciate, and the way everything feels as though it belongs.

Your home deserves more than decoration. It deserves thoughtful design.

Leave the design to the designer. Live beautifully in the result.

Truth ♥️❤️🙏🏽

For a long time I would go back and forth with design thinking it wasn’t a true important career. I would work in it and then pull away and then go back again. I was struggling Thinking it was shallow and it didn’t matter. Until one day I was working at a dr office doing admin. Which is not a great fit for my brain. And I realized beauty brings people joy and joy is one of the most beautiful important parts of life. I thought what if Mother Nature didn’t care about beauty and we lived in a purely ugly world with no magic or beauty. What a dreadful world that would be to live in. It was that moment I realized the value of design, the arts , beauty, enjoyment. It is important and it matters. Other endeavors are important too ~ but creating beautiful environments is very meaningful and purposeful work for me and I am really grateful to be able to help people with their spaces. Help them to realize their space in a way that resonates with them and lights them up with joy. ❤️♥️✨🤍💛🖤🩷🎀✨🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻Grateful everyday.
