* Coffee you can smell from the sidewalk at Sunshine Coffee Roasters on Palmer Avenue — roasted onsite, brewing before you're awake
* The farmers market every Saturday morning in the Metro-North upper lot off Chatsworth Avenue, 8:30 to 1, rain or shine, all year
* Porch lights on and neighbors out walking after dinner in Larchmont Manor
* Manor Park in September, when the Sound goes glass-flat and the last sailboats come in right at golden hour
* Chat 19 on Chatsworth, where nobody needs a reservation and someone always waves

Coffee at J Cafe @pelhamjcafe on Wolfs Lane, a slow morning at Shore Park along the Sound, a drive back through Pelham Heights, and suddenly they’re talking about it differently on the way home.

If that’s you, or that’s someone you love, consider this your sign. You’d be 30 minutes from Grand Central, 25 minutes from LaGuardia, and close enough to Midtown that the commute stops being the thing you plan your life around.

Harvest Moon alone is worth the drive, and it is not even the one I’d send you to first.

Every fall I get the same question from people moving to Westchester County, NY. Once the weather turns, what is actually worth doing out here.

Start with Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem. Go early, get the apple cider donuts, and give yourself a full hour because you are going to want it.

Then head to Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm in Yorktown Heights. It sits just off the Taconic State Parkway, so you can turn it into a whole morning without driving all over Westchester County.

The other three are worth your Saturday too, especially if you are new to Westchester County, NY and still figuring out which direction to head on a weekend.
