The last leg of our late September road trip to Texas and back involved lots of driving and talking and… a detour to Hot Springs! We’ve always wanted to go and this was our chance. We were only there for around 20 hours but we made it count! I definitely want to go back.

And we came home to a broken AC and a surprise from kitty. 🤔🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
Davis HVAC fixed our AC super fast and Long Hollow Animal Hospital/Dr. Hill fixed katniss right up!

Galveston ☀️🌊🏖️

A few weeks ago when we went down to visit Luke, Aaron and I took a few much-needed days away at Galveston beach. Aaron grew up going to this beach and we had brought our kids a few times when they were younger, so it was quite nostalgic!

It’s been a tough year for a multitude of reasons so this was such a peaceful, introspective time for us. We had the entire beach to ourselves, a gorgeous view from our balcony, and the pool all to ourselves as well!

And, we got to FaceTime with Lucy. ☺️ She’s already changed so much just since this trip! by @bethallison

One week ago today, Aaron and I got to see Luke and attend an A&M game at Kyle Field. What an experience! It was soooooooo miserably hot and we only lasted a little bit in our seats before we sought out shade! It was exciting to see Luke in his new environment and meet some of his crew!

We miss Luke a lot but we’re incredibly proud of his hard work and dedication!

Consider me a goodwill ambassador for the city of Memphis! I’ve always loved it and don’t understand why it gets such a bad rap.
Yes, I know there’s crime there… but crime isn’t sequestered to geographical boundary lines.

ANYWAY… Aaron and I took some much needed time away and made an overnight stop in Memphis on our way to Texas last week!
I’d never been to Graceland and Aaron hadn’t been in a long time, so that was a must-do on our list!
It was fascinating… and sad. So many emotions as we went through the house, museum, and airplane. One of our guides really took time to tell us some insider info. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it.

We stayed in a hotel downtown and ate at Blues City Cafe right on Beale - oh my word! The best fall-off-the bone ribs. Ask for Lupi. She’s been working there for 25 years! We went in a gift shop afterwards and talked with the owner a bit about how deserted Beale St seemed. All of the workers are worried about how Memphis has failed to bounce back after covid. I’d love to see it flourish again!

🫪 Help us, Jesus. Katniss got sprayed by a skunk and ran through the house before we could process what was happening! 🦨 The smell was overwhelmingly HORRID and poor kitty was distressed!
I briefly contemplated setting the house on fire or moving… but decided to try salvaging everything first. 🤔
At the suggestion of friends, I whipped up a paste and lured her into the bathroom with a can of chicken.
Here’s where it got dicey. I don’t recall her ever getting a bath in the 13 years of life! Her fur always smells like sunshine and fresh laundry so we’ve never needed to. 😽
But ohhhhhhh my.
I slathered her with the paste (she tolerated that better than I expected tbh) and set my timer for 8 min. She paced. Cried. Ate a little chicken. And cried some more.
Finally, it was time to rinse her off. 🫨
Aaron wrapped her in a towel and handed her to me. She panicked. I grabbed her by the scruff, poured the rest of the concoction on her and got to rinsing.
Y’all, when I tell you she howled, tried to climb up the shower curtain, cried… but NEVER ONCE scratched me or tried to attack me. Sweet baby. 🥹🥹🥹🥹
I wrapped her in a towel and started drying her and within a few minutes she was purring and cuddling so I guess she forgives me. We’re all traumatized though! 😵‍💫
I don’t know what impressed me more - her not attacking me or me staying on my feet in the bathtub with rubber slides on!!! I guess all that PT paid off! 💪🏼

Our house still reeks. If you see us in the next few days and we smell like skunk, you’ll know why. 🫩 by @bethallison

My nephew, Austin, is married!!! We love his bride, Izzy, and are so excited for their new life!
It was a beautiful wedding in a gorgeous venue and a good time was had by all!
(And side note, my SIL Shelby looked like absolute royalty!)

Tonight was a blessing. I don’t take these girls for granted. They’re good for my soul.

A big praise report: finally - 7 months and one week after my knee surgery - I was able to walk around downtown without a care in the world and no pain!!! 🙌🏼

Lucy’s first trip to ChaCha and Granddad’s house!!! Nanny, Mona, Deb, and Morgan drove all the way from Prestonsburg! Rich & Georgia joined the fun, too! (And Luke just drove home from Texas but we didn’t get a pic yet!)
