In a hotel conference room far, far, away (well, actually in Merrifield, VA šŸ˜‚), let’s leave our ordinary world behind. Join me Saturday, June 6th, as we transform simple water into ethereal bottled-light imagery and venture into the captivating world of oil-and-water abstracts and water-drop photography.

Using refraction, reflection and macro techniques you’ll learn to create luminous, otherworldly images that appear to belong to another realm. Explore the endless possibilities hidden within a single drop of water, capture vibrant abstract patterns, and discover how everyday materials can produce extraordinary photographs.

Whether you are looking to expand your creative vision, refine your macro photography skills, experiment with new-to-you techniques, or simply play with water, this immersive experience will inspire you to create a myriad of unique images. Bring your camera, your curiosity, and your imagination - and prepare to see water in an entirely new light!

In October 1770, George Washington met with Guyasuta, a Seneca leader, along the Ohio River. They left with different visions - but mutual respect. That same landscape now offers endless opportunities to interpret light, history and story through your lens.
Join @bethhaubach, @capitalphotographycenter, and a small group of photographers in Pittsburgh for our City of Bridges Workshop (June 11-14). We’ll chase golden hour and blue hour across the skyline, work with reflections and leading lines on the rivers, and explore neighborhoods full of texture, architecture, and street scenes - all while refining your composition, timing and creative approach.
A few spots remain and registration closes May 10. Visit Capital Photography Center’s website to learn more.
Come for the shots - leave with stronger images, sharper skills, and new creative connections. by @bethhaubach

The garden never fails to surprise…especially this time of year! While working in the garden today I turned around and noticed this sweet clump of violets nestled in a decaying tree trunk. I’ve recently acquired a fisheye lens and have been exploring the creative possibilities this lens will afford me. I like how it has exaggerated the rotting trunk making it appear the trunk is hugging, or gathering, the violets to itself. by @bethhaubach

I ask: is there anything more delicate, or refreshing to the soul, than the emergence of new life after a harsh winter? by @bethhaubach

The February theme for the Year of CPC Photography, offered through Capital Photography Center, was B&W Photography. I can appreciate B&W images, but I’m more of a vibrant colors person, so last month took me out of the norm for what and how I shoot. I was pleased with my images from the Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery. I’ve made it a goal this year to improve my in-camera ICM skills. It’s still a take a hundred shoots, and get maybe two images that work process, but thank goodness memory is cheap! šŸ˜‚
The spectacular roof of the courtyard is a wonderful subject for capturing abstracts…and I couldn’t help myself 😬. by @bethhaubach

These beauties grace my garden in late winter, giving me hope that Spring is not far off. With the ā€œsnowcreteā€ and cold temperatures they lay crushed beneath the snow for longer than usual this year. However, the glorious temperatures and sunshine this past weekend had the flowers craning their blooms above the foliage. I could not resist spending time photographing them. But, as I post them today it is dreary and the snow is falling in fat flakes. I guess Spring will have to wait…. by @bethhaubach
