💛 Beth Murphy Art | The girl in times new viking
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Aug 22 @BazookaFestBK @TheMeadowsBK: This year's 2nd edition of Bazooka Fest, Brooklyn's own DIY indie rock/pop festival founded & well-curated by @ConstantJake (formerly of @MatadorRecords) celebrated a great mix of vintage underground artists and newer acts influenced by them. The Bazooka reference is more a nod to the colorful gum brand, which was named after the WWII rocket-propelled weapon, which was in turn named after a DIY wind instrument built by 1930s radio comedian Bob Burns, so ultimately it's DIY through and through. Recently reunited Columbus, Ohio-originated noise pop trio Times New Viking played its 2nd NYC show in a decade, with @BethMurphyArt 🎤 🎹, the quippy Adam Elliott 🎤 🥁, & @Trans_Fats_Domino Jared Phillips 🎸 continuing the slacker pop vibe that started in 2005 when they were printmaking art students (hence the dada font joke for the band name), with many short, catchy songs loaded with pop culture references, to the delight of many of the younger fans in the crowd singing along to their favorite tunes. Here's the full performance of "No Time, No Hope" from 2009 @MatadorRecords LP Born Again Revisited. 📽️ + 📝 @TheMickLewis #TimesNewViking #NoisePop #ArtPunk #MatadorRecords #BazookaFest taken in The Meadows by @bethmurphyart

Emily @yr_wife is one of the best people in my “known almost 20 years” bucket. I have a vague memory of her drunkenly critiquing my vocal skills back in the early aughts, and several years later I drunkenly gave her a rainbow (the shoelace pull thing) which resulted in her having a broken arm. We get along well. And last winter we recorded an album. I, pregnant and sober, had a few song dumplings that Emily, graceful with insane range and knack for hooks, helped me flesh out. Together, we wrote a few more. When it was time to record, BJ Holesapple @indridcoldsore stepped up and it felt like 2005 again, except instead of being “busy making love & war” we were busy making babies and mortgage payments. Bo @bo_davis_the_guy co-engineered and executed the triumphant guitar solo on “There Ain’t Nothing,” following notes to “make it you know like reeeerear eeee reee reee,” and the correct response to this part of the song is to laugh with glee. On three songs, @angrybangry plays drums exactly how we imagined a sentient drum machine to sound. We had a ball and hope you like it and no we will not be playing any shows.
