In memory of my mother.

It’s been a year ago today that she left us. I sit here with tears remembering the day I knew would be the last I’d hold her hand. My mother was a strong woman, an ally who stuck to her principles and a genuinely kind person. She made friends with everyone and was always there to lend a hand.

She taught me about art and music and culture. She loved the Beatles, Alice Cooper and Elton John. She tried to get me to learn the violin but it never stuck and she would pick up what I couldn’t. The first album she ever bought for me was The Essential Ozzy Osbourne.

When I began making clutches, my mom wanted to help me and she started cutting out my patterns for me. Many coffins from my early years were made by us both. Those were shipped all over the world and made with love.

On the plane ride home after saying goodbye to my mom, I was sitting next to an older woman and we talked the whole flight. The entire time I was thinking that this is exactly what my mom would have done; making friends with the person next to you.

I wish I could say that she lived a long life, but the cancer cut it short. She did not let it keep her from traveling and singing and being with all of us who loved her.

If you knew my mom you knew her kind soul. Her laughter and love for music drew you in. At any party she was ready to play guitar and sing. My son is constantly comforting me and I see her healing warmth in him.

I miss you Mom. by @betteroffdeaddesigns

New things coming!
Had this idea for a while now- adding metal hardware to my coffin clutches. I’ve done embroidery in wire as well as metal stamping in brass and silver finishes. Adding some new hardware opens up so many possibilities for customization going forward.

In the past I added fabric purse tabs and casket-like handles to my larger coffins. Now I can add these smaller arches to make it possible to attach your own strap to clutches. I’m still working on the best placement for the hardware in terms of comfort and unzipping the coffin.

Decorative hardware has always been a popular customization for clutches. As for this ouroboros pendant, I’m leaning toward faux leather lacing details instead. It would be less bulk on the coffin and I’d get to learn a new skill. I often use leather crafting as references for making my coffins.

I love coming up with new ideas and when folks share their ideas with me. Here’s to learning new things and adding more supplies to my craft table 💜 by @betteroffdeaddesigns

Autumn and all the good things that comes with it 💀🕸️👻

We saw this bakery with a dozen giant skeletons and had to go inside 🍰

Cookies and cakes and my beloved pan dulce with Halloween designs! The lovely lady behind the counter gave us our goodies and told us the large pumpkin concha is pumpkin flavored! 🎃

Although here in my heart it’s Halloween everyday, once you’re out and about and see skulls in shop windows and the grocery store smells of cinnamon and pumpkin it just brings me a little more joy.

This time of year when you look forward to the season and have fall activities planned, think of your friends who are feeling down around this time. Seasonal depression hits hard, especially in a time when you are the most busy and the most expected to be taking part in so much. I’m no exception and I’ll get more into that later. For now, I’m rewatching Over The Garden Wall with my child and singing Potatoes and Molasses as often as possible. 𝐀𝐢𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲. by @betteroffdeaddesigns

This eye follows you…

New item added to the shop - I just love the look of cat eyes on demons. This is a keychain I fashioned from a coffin shaped wooden pendant and faux leather with a hand painted glass demon eye. I plan to have these in various colors soon 😈 by @betteroffdeaddesigns

New item to be added to the shop - crushed velvet embossed mirrors. These are large mirrors with heat embossed images, a good size mirror and easy to find in your purse 👜 These are meant to pair with my coffin clutches to match the interior. by @betteroffdeaddesigns

Ellie is here to remind you to order your own custom coffin clutch from the Etsy shop, link in bio

PLEASE READ
I have a few ready-to-ship coffin clutches with black crushed velvet exteriors. These will be listed today on my Depop but if anyone is interested I can set up a reserved listing to purchase one on Etsy. I also still have pre-orders available for the usual clutches I make with your choice of velvet interior.

My question for y’all is if anyone would be interested in compact mirrors or keychains to bundle with the coffin clutches. These would be made with matching velvet fabric to pair with the coffin interiors. by @betteroffdeaddesigns
