Over the years, I’ve created and curated a collection of images that I’m absolutely head over heels in love with. I’m not kidding when I say I am personally married to every single one of them. I named the collection “the female gaze”. While taking these pictures, the main focus was to keep my muses safe, and let them do what felt natural, without any sense of objectification. Let them keep on what THEY wanted to keep on. Let them show what THEY wanted to show. The mainstream media objectifies women enough, and honestly, I am SO tired of that look. Women shouldn’t have to be posed and sculpted through the male gaze to look beautiful. We shouldn’t have to sell anything when photographed. Especially not our bodies. [1/2] Thursday night was a blur. I’m so happy I have these beautiful photos to remember. Thanks again everyone for coming out and celebrating the female gaze. Whether you were there in person or in spirit, I felt the love. Creating and curating this collection took years, and planning this event took at least three months. It ended up being perfection. Grateful for all the people that jumped on zoom calls to brainstorm, took the time to connect me with others, shared the work - there are literal hundreds of you! It truly takes a village. Japanese vignettes from our honeymoon 🇯🇵 Some of my initial thoughts: 💭 Craftsmanship is truly honoured and respected here. People put time and effort into whatever they are making or any service they are providing. It’s refreshing to see. If it’s made in Japan, it is made with pride and made to last. 📞 No one is talking on their phones while walking, or in restaurants. It’s very quiet here, even with a lot of people around. Music is never loud. People (locals) are never loud. 🚇 Taking public transport here is a privilege. Every train is sparkling clean. 🗑️ Pack it in, pack it out. Good luck finding public garbage bins. 🍳 We haven’t had a bad meal yet. I will be craving Japanese breakfasts for the rest of my life. 🚲 Stealing is not a thing. Bikes are just out and about without locks. 🤌 The fashion here is to die for, or at least exactly how I like to dress. Baggy. Flowy. Denim. 📸 Also!!!! Took 12 years but I think Adam’s getting the hang of taking photos of his wife. by @bettinabogar

One of the highlights of my summer was meeting @selvaggiaplds. She lives in a literal castle in Tuscany. Runs the whole property (@castellodelcalcione) with her family. Owns 35 horses. She was nursing a leg injury and was still training bareback, at dawn, for the Palio di Siena, a centuries old race no woman has been allowed to ride since the 1500s. Oh, and when I was at her property, her dog was about to give birth to 8 puppies. She still made time to show us around with a huge smile like it was just another Tuesday. I asked her what rest looks like for her. She said it’s riding bareback. No phone, no to-do list, just the horse. By the way, if you’ve never ridden a horse before… it is VERY impressive to ride one bareback, let alone do tricks. I’ll let the images do the talking. Unbelievable story and visuals. Last year we visited Flavortown to shoot the recent collab between @guyfieri and @bark. This year the assets launched and we made it to @people magazine! @guyfieri and I became fast friends on set, bonding over our mutual love for dogs, cooking and well-organized productions. As we were wrapping up the shoot, Guy shared how happy he was with everything and invited us for a @santospirit tequila shot. Since the beginning of time, women have taken care of each other. Our communes, our tribes, our covens. We share, we lead by example, we show up. Somewhere along the way we became more focused on achieving than nurturing. I know because I lived it: hustle culture, girlbossing, networking, until it cost me my peace and my ability to function in my own body. Burning out is what brought me to Women At Rest, asking how women rest in the 21st century. Those Renaissance paintings of women reclining at ease... were they genuine, or were they just told to pause long enough for the painting? Kicking off this series with one of the most accomplished (and nurturing) women I know: Lisa Rochon. Author, city builder, architecture critic, mother of four. Founder of Tuscan Creative Lab, a small artists’ residency on an olive grove near Siena, where Women At Rest began. Lisa devotes a lot of her time giving back to community. Volunteering as a yoga teacher, working with refugee women in downtown Toronto, championing Indigenous arts and placemaking. The list goes on. She’s currently back in Toronto celebrating the launch of her new novel, The Paris Thief — which is a must-read for this summer. A little slice of heaven, owned by a Canadian family, in the middle of Chianti, sitting among the rolling hills, is Isola Serena @isola_serena During my stay I had plenty of time to plot my next trip with my closest 19 friends, because this property, with 10 bedrooms and 10+ baths, can host an epic reunion. The owners, Serena and Peter, poured nothing but love into this place and you feel it everywhere. Walking through the magical gardens, browsing their curated library of meaningful books. Each stone here is laid with purpose, and from what I can tell, they have plans to keep adding thoughtful touches for years to come. The infinity pool. The pizza oven. The daybeds. The cabanas. And of course, the Sonos system running throughout the property, even by the pool. Some of my favorite parts. Currently polling all my group chats on who’s serious about next summer. Initiated by best-selling author, writer and architecture critic Lisa Rochon and internationally acclaimed lawyer John Terry, Tuscan Creative Lab is not just an artist residency. It’s a place for healing, embracing, and learning. Embedded in the forest, surrounded by culture, and held by two devoted humans who have seen the world and raised four incredible children. The grounds, the trees, the birds, the wind. They all seem to know how much they are loved. A regenerative way of caring for Earth has always shaped Lisa and John. It’s the same way they treat people. Giving back isn’t something they do. It’s who they are. Spending a week here, Lisa not only produced every shoot, but carried my gear, accompanied me everywhere, and championed every single photograph. I felt not just seen, but held. By someone who spent decades writing about art, including the works of Picasso and Michelangelo. By someone who sees the world differently, and built a universe most have yet to experience. Any artist accepted here is lucky. I happened to be one of them. My special cine film is currently being developed in Budapest. More soon. 🎞️ taken in Tuscany, Italy by @bettinabogar
