We lazen nog nooit een boek met zo vaak het woord 'en' erin. Eindeloze opsommingen van zich eindeloos herhalende dagen. Over je niks meer kunnen herinneren en volledig moeten vertrouwen op de verhalen van een ander, en wat als die verhalen niet blijken te kloppen?

Iedereen was onder de indruk van dit verhaal, de schrijfstijl en het inlevingsvermogen van Daanje. Niet iedereen had het boek uit kunnen lezen, maar zeker na de bespreking was het voor iedereen duidelijk: dit boek gaat mee op vakantie!

Na ziekte, baby's, dubbele afspraken, onverwachte dates en smaakverschillen blijven er meestal op het laatst zo'n 4 tot 6 mensen over voor de bespreking van ieder boek. Maar wat is het toch altijd weer gezellig 🥰 En wat viel er ook over 'Hallo goedemorgen, hoe gaat het?' (Zonnegod Ra, is that you?) weer veel te zeggen. Want wat betekent het dat Juno en Jupiter vernoemd zijn naar de Romeinse oppergod en zijn vrouw/zus? En welke rol hadden Cielo, Aamon en Salvan? En kun je Nigeriaanse lovescammers wel echt kwalijk nemen dat ze witte, Europese vrouwen proberen te strikken om uit de armoede te ontsnappen waarin het historische (en moderne) Europese kolonialisme ze heeft gestort? Wie scamt wie eigenlijk in dit boek en waarom? Wie heeft daar schuld aan? Waar eindigt verantwoordelijkheid en begint slachtofferschap en andersom?

Deze keer niet in ons favoriete @arnhemsboekencafe (we still love you though 🫶) maar gezellig bij Maud in de serre in het kader van prikkelvermindering en omdat ze dan niks aan haar Hagrid-haar hoefde te doen. Dacht ze. by @betweenbooks.kitsch

Do you have any hobbies other than reading? What are they?

I love bookbinding and (junk) journaling, so I thought I'd start showing you some of the journals I make, starting with the last one. This is my winter journal. I use it to write everything in, from to do lists to therapeutic exercises, stories, and ideas. I made a separate insert for lists and another for a calendar overview, helping myself get as organised as possible while also keeping it creative and inspiring.

I've taken this one up and put it away a million times over the last 5 years, and for some reason, this time, it hits differently. It has exactly the right pace for my mind right now. I'm curious to see if I'll finish this time around. It's 1232 pages long, and im supposed to finish another one for @leesclubarnhem before January 🥲 What do you do when you don't immediately like a book?

Another hobby that very few people know I have is collecting vintage and/or unique minitiature perfume bottles and other trinkets. Very good information for anyone who ever needs to get me a gift 😁 (there's no time like the present, people).

Fun fact : My handle @betweenbooks.kitsch was inspired by the Dutch tv show @tussenkunstenkitsch, in which people can get their antique possessions appraised. The show's title can literally be translated to 'between art and kitsch'. I don't care if something is actual art or antique or kitsch, I just love the vintage-y feel of things. And books. Always books.
