A few weeks ago, I walked into @portobellovintagemarket expecting a quick collaboration. But instead I found a story.I was welcomed by Mahan, a genuinely kind, passionate soul, who took the time to show me not just the pieces, but the history stitched into every corner of Portobello Vintage Market. This isn’t just a shop. It’s decades of fashion and creativity layered together. Rails filled with rare, historical garments sit alongside pieces Mahan designed himself (he even showed me skull designs he created back in the 80s!) I could feel the legacy in that space.Which is why it was saddening to hear that after years of being a cornerstone of London’s vintage scene, Portobello Vintage Market is now facing closure.This is because the world around it has changed. Independent spaces like this are being pushed out by an industry dominated by mass-produced fast fashion and shrinking room for creativity.While exploring the warehouse, I also discovered incredible work by @nokiofficial including the piece I’m wearing here. He creates breathtaking garments from deadstock fabrics, giving new life to what would otherwise be discarded. Like Mahan, his work is rooted in care and intention 🖤We spoke, and it became clear we share the same feeling: this space deserves to survive.So this is more than just a post, it’s a call out! If you’re a London-based creative looking for a space to work, design, shoot, or build something meaningful, this could be it.
