KEEPING IT REAL

The explosion of social media over the last 10+ years continues to distort “beauty” & our perception of what it means to be beautiful.

If you remember the days of floppy disks & the excitement over waiting 10 short minutes for your dial-up internet to load ( #IYKYK ) you‘ve seen this phenomenon evolve.

Distorted beauty used to be limited to my weekend perusal of airbrushed glossy magazines. Now it’s literally in my face hourly.

True, you can choose to limit your exposure to social media. But the lure and fascination of images, music, silliness, dancing and voyeurism is a bit addicting if I’m honest.

This misperception of beauty isn’t unique to young people raised in the era of social media. It affects all generations.

I don’t have the answer. However, I do find it helpful to recognize the inherent distortion in the social media I’m consuming. It helps me keep perspective & getting too down on myself for not living up to the social media “standard” of the hour.

I strive to look my best every day. The REALITY is 70% of the time I look like I do in the third slide.

It’s important to me to “KEEP IT REAL” for you, not to distort myself through filters (though I do sharpen, lighten & brighten my images). You can expect most of my posts to be just me!

The bottom line is…(and I know you know this, but I find it helpful to consciously remind myself now and again)

….Joy and happiness in life comes from within. This takes a lot more time and effort than a skincare routine, makeup & beautiful clothes. It takes soul-searching and personal work. But it’s worth it an you are worth it.

MY FACIAL REJUVENATION
AGE 50 to 57

After menopause I looked in the mirror. I literally didn't recognize myself. I decided to save and to start my pro-aging journey.

I started re-educating myself on skincare. As a cosmetologist I had some education on skincare. But clearly my adherence was poor and the years of sun damage were taking a toll, as you can see.

There’s no “right way” or a more “graceful” way to embrace aging. There’s only YOUR way!
