✨Grantee Spotlight✨: Beyond Birr

This is what youth-led community impact can look like.

This weekend, the BYLP team had the opportunity to attend the final celebration of Beyond Birr, a youth program created to support Ethiopian and Eritrean youth in Calgary.

Over the course of three weeks, participants took part in hands-on business development sessions, learned from mentors and guest speakers, and worked together to build real business ideas from the ground up. The program concluded with a final pitch showcase and pop-up market, giving participants the chance to put what they learned into practice.

Beyond Birr was created with a bigger vision in mind: helping young people think beyond survival, recognize their own potential, and build pathways toward opportunity, leadership, and a lasting impact within their communities.

We’re proud to see how the use of the BYLP funding transformed into an experience that brought young people together to learn, create, lead, and grow.

Congratulations to Kalkidan Debele and the Beyond Birr team on completing such a meaningful project. 💛

Have a project idea of your own? Stay tuned for the next BYLP application intake.

. . .

BYLP is funded by Canada Service Corps, a national movement that empowers youth aged 15–30 to gain experience and build important skills while giving back to their community.
