I spent all my 20s and most of my 30s in London. I don’t know how to be an adult anywhere else.

Guess I’m about to find out. taken in London, United Kingdom by @beyondborderswithandi

Hot take: it’s unacceptable how many people have never tried Hungarian wine šŸ·

Came home for the Szekszárd wine festival with my bestie and got reminded just how good it is. Hungary has 22 wine regions and most people can only name Tokaji.

Szekszárd is known for its reds, especially Bikavér and Kadarka, and the vineyard views are something else.

Add an off road tour through the hills and you’ve got a trip nobody back home will have done.

If you want a wine trip that’s a bit different, put Hungary on your list and you can thank me later šŸ¤ taken in Hungary, Europe by @beyondborderswithandi

✨THE OVERTHINKING EXPERIMENT✨

I’ve been overthinking every single decision lately. What to post, what to say, what happens next. Big life changes will do that to you, apparently your brain thinks if it just plans hard enough, nothing can surprise you. Spoiler, it doesn’t work like that.

So for the next 4 weeks I’m testing one technique each week to deal with it and telling you exactly how it goes. No filter, no ā€œthis changed my lifeā€ nonsense if it didn’t.

Week 1: talking to myself like I’m someone else. Weirder in practice than it sounds. Verdict lands next Thursday.

Overthinker to overthinker, I’ve got a feeling this is going to be a fun one to watch unfold. taken in London, United Kingdom by @beyondborderswithandi

I spent years chasing the next title, the next promotion, telling myself once I got there it would finally feel like enough. It never did. And then one day the decision got made for me, and I was out of a job I’d built years of my identity around.

I could have gone straight back to the same kind of role. Instead I started asking what I actually wanted, not what everyone wanted me to do. Slowly I started building something of my own, one small decision at a time, trusting myself more than I ever did climbing that ladder.

For a long time, I thought success meant having a good job, climbing the career ladder and earning good money.

So that’s what I worked towards.

But last year, something happened that made me seriously question whether the life I was working so hard for was actually the one I wanted.

It made me realise I couldn’t keep putting everything into building a career for someone else when deep down, I wanted something different.

That was when I started thinking, maybe I should actually give myself a chance.

Maybe I should try to build something of my own.

I had no idea where it would lead, and I still don’t.

But I knew I owed it to myself to try.

And I think that’s a pretty good place to start.

Follow along and see where this journey takes me. šŸ¤ taken in London, United Kingdom by @beyondborderswithandi

I had no idea where to start building structure around my life. I was so used to corporate handing me a structured day, every hour decided for me, that the second it disappeared I didn’t know what to do with myself.

So I started creating my own structure.

The storytelling content challenge gave me something to show up for every day and help with content creation. Notion helped me get all the ideas out of my head and into one place. Atomic Habits reminded me that discipline comes from creating systems you can actually stick to. And getting out of the house became just as important as the work itself.

I’m still working out what my new routine looks like, but having some structure in my days has made such a difference.

I’m learning that when no one else is setting the structure for you, you have to create it for yourself.

Save this if you’re trying to create some structure of your own. šŸ¤

When I lost my job for the last time, the hardest part wasn’t losing a paycheck.

It was realizing, again, how much of my identity I’d built around being successful. Chasing something I thought I wanted, for so long, that I didn’t know how to separate who I was from what I’d achieved. If I wasn’t succeeding at work, I felt like a failure. Full stop.

This last time was different. It completely shifted how I see all of it.

I have no idea what’s next. And that doesn’t terrify me anymore, it actually excites me. Even if it means sacrifices in the short term.

Maybe I’m delusional for believing I can build something of my own from here. But I actually believe in myself now, more than I ever have 🄹

Here is the power of perspective:

What if the thing you’re seeing as a setback is actually creating space for something you wouldn’t have chosen yourself?

Losing my job wasn’t part of the plan. But instead of only asking, ā€œHow did I end up here?ā€ I’m trying to ask, ā€œWhat could this make possible?ā€

Maybe more time with my family.
Maybe finally building the ideas I’ve been putting off.
Maybe travelling.
Maybe exploring somewhere completely new.

I don’t know what’s next yet.

But maybe I don’t need to.

Maybe the unknown isn’t something to fear. Maybe it’s where the possibilities are. šŸ¤

For a long time, I thought my life wasn’t happening when it was supposed to.

By 30, I thought I’d have the career, the money, the stability and the life I had pictured for myself.

And at 37, looking at where I am now, it’s easy to think I’m behind.

But living through all of this has changed the way I see it.

Maybe things happening later doesn’t mean they’re happening at the wrong time.

Maybe I needed the experiences, the changes and even the detours to become clear on what I actually want.

So no, my life doesn’t look the way I thought it would.

But if I could go back and change the timing?

I wouldn’t.

Because I’m starting to believe I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. šŸ¤

Losing my job took the choice to keep waiting away from me. For years I chased the next job, the next industry, thinking one of them would finally be the one that fit. None of them were. Deep down I always knew, I just wasn’t ready to admit it. So I started saying no, to the easier paths, the safer offers, the version of moving forward that would’ve just put me back where I started. Instead I started building this, in public, without a finished plan, figuring it out as I go. I’d rather live with not knowing than live with never trying.

Everyone expects you to panic when you lose your job. I didn’t. Here’s what I actually did in the first forty eight hours, and why having options matters more than having a plan. Even if your job feels secure right now, don’t wait until it happens to start building something on the side. Trust me, when it does happen, having something to fall back on changes everything.

Follow along, this is exactly what I’m documenting as I figure it out. šŸ¤ taken in London, United Kingdom by @beyondborderswithandi

I think, deep down, I’ve always known when something wasn’t right for me.

I just got very good at ignoring it!

I kept thinking the next job, the next company or the next move would be the one that finally felt right. But I was looking for answers everywhere except inside myself.

And now? I still don’t have everything figured out. Far from it.

But for the first time in a long time, I’m actually listening to that little voice instead of trying to silence it. Maybe you don’t need to have your whole life planned out either. Maybe you just need to ask yourself what that little voice has been trying to tell you.

What has yours been saying lately? šŸ¤
