Your road car might redline around 6,000–8,000 RPM. Honda was testing F1 engines beyond 20,000.

At 21,000 RPM, the crankshaft makes approximately 350 complete revolutions every second.

These dyno tests allowed Honda engineers to push engines under controlled conditions while monitoring power, heat, vibration and durability.

It was one of the wildest periods of naturally aspirated Formula 1 engineering.

And yes…

headphones are highly recommended. 🔊

Instead of building another lane, engineers figured out how to move one.

The Golden Gate Bridge’s six lanes can switch between 3/3 and 4/2 configurations using a movable concrete-and-steel median barrier.

A specialized “zipper truck” lifts the barrier as it drives, guides it through the machine and places it roughly one lane over.

The system was installed in 2015 for about $30 million and also created a physical separation between opposing traffic.

Sometimes solving traffic doesn’t require building a bigger bridge.

It requires making the existing bridge smarter.

The “no Face ID” rumor turned out to be true.

Apple officially revealed its $1,999 iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone.

It opens into a 7.6-inch display and runs Apple’s A20 Pro chip—but authentication comes from Touch ID built into the side button instead of Face ID.

That’s a fascinating trade-off:

Apple’s most radical new iPhone is also bringing fingerprint unlocking back.

Would losing Face ID stop you from buying it?

Invented in 1910. Still relevant more than a century later.

Max Graetz developed the Petromax high-pressure lamp in Berlin as a powerful source of portable lighting at a time when electricity still wasn’t available everywhere.

Its basic principle is beautifully mechanical: pressurize the kerosene, vaporize it, mix it with air and use the resulting heat to make a mantle glow intensely.

The design became a global success, with millions of Petromax lamps eventually produced.

Sometimes the best technology isn’t the newest.

It’s the technology that still works generations later.

Engineers are teaching robots to move more like living organisms.

Rather than using wheels or articulated legs, this soft robot creates movement by repeatedly deforming its flexible body.

The approach is known as biomimetic locomotion—using principles found in biology to solve engineering problems.

And when robots need to enter tight, irregular or fragile environments, being soft instead of rigid can become a major advantage.

This is what happens when minimalist design becomes REALLY minimalist.

Samsung introduced its hidden Beverage Center on the Bespoke 4-Door Flex in 2021.

Instead of placing the water dispenser on the outside, Samsung concealed it behind the upper-left door, alongside an AutoFill water pitcher.

It creates an incredibly clean exterior.

But as this video demonstrates, hiding a feature can also make it harder to discover.

Sometimes the best-designed control is the one you immediately know how to use.

You’ve probably squeezed this hundreds of times without thinking about what’s happening inside.

AirPods Pro use the stem as a control interface, recognizing different press patterns for playback, skipping tracks and switching listening modes.

And Apple even lets you change how quickly multiple presses must happen or how long a press-and-hold must last.

A surprisingly sophisticated interface packed into one tiny stem.

AI video has officially entered the “wait… is this real?” era.

This viral clip appears to show Elon Musk standing inside a secret facility beside an enormous ring being described online as a “portal.”

But the footage traces back to an account connected with AI-generated videos, and there’s no verified evidence it depicts a real SpaceX project.

The portal isn’t the important part.

How believable the video looks is.

The amount of timing behind this is ridiculous.

A father synchronized real objects with pre-made cartoon scenes so precisely that his daughter sees him interacting directly with the characters on screen.

Every swing, pour and prop movement has to happen at exactly the right second or the illusion falls apart.

And judging by her reaction…

he absolutely nailed it.
