This little K.M. Selza was buried in an eBay job lot, and I almost overlooked it. At first glance it's just another small vintage watch. But look closer and the story starts to unfold. The "K.M." marking stands for Kriegsmarine, the navy of wartime Germany. Selza Watch Co. was a Swiss manufacturer founded in the early 1920s by Hans Gisiger, producing watches under numerous brand names and supplying military contracts during the Second World War. Historical trademark records place the company in Selzach and later Biel, Switzerland. This example has everything I love: • Beautifully aged cream dial with honest patina. • Classic Arabic numerals with cathedral-style hands. • Small seconds at 6 o'clock. • The unmistakable military simplicity where function came before decoration. The watch has a vintage 31mm case size excluding the crown and takes a 16mm strap. What fascinates me most is imagining where this watch has been over the last 80+ years. Every mark on the case is part of a story we'll probably never know. It's not perfect. It isn't pristine. But I'd choose this over a polished, over-restored example every time. Finding pieces like this in forgotten job lots is exactly why I keep hunting. Would you leave it exactly as it is, or restore it? The Mystery Box Keeps Giving! 🕵️‍♂️✨ ​If you caught my blind eBay job lot reel earlier in the week, you already know the sheer madness of opening a mystery box of timepieces—and trust me, this rugged vintage Lator skin diver chronograph actually made the cut to steal the show right alongside a few other standout pieces 📦🔥. Over here at BezelAndHide, I'm digging through the box and pulling out a fresh survivor every couple of days to highlight 🔍. Best of all? This piece—produced back in the early-to-mid 1960s—is fully running, keeping great time, and all the hands snap right back to zero just as they should ⏱️✨. ​Skin Diver Credentials & Under the Hood ​With its robust build, bidirectional friction rotating bezel, highly legible matte black dial, and water-resistance architecture typical of the era, this piece carries proper skin diver credentials built for underwater exploration before heavy-duty saturation diving took over. Beating inside is the legendary Landeron 248 manual-wind movement, a 17-jewel workhorse produced extensively through the mid-century. ​How it operates: It utilizes a traditional two-button layout, but with a unique mechanical quirk. The top pusher handles starting the chronograph, while the bottom pusher manages both the stopping and resetting functions 👆👇. ​Landeron vs. Valjoux: While contemporary rivals like the Valjoux 7733 use a conventional arrangement where the top pusher controls start/stop and the bottom pusher handles only the reset, the Landeron cam-switching architecture routes the stop and reset sequence through that lower pusher instead.
