As a social media strategist, I have to pay attention to what is happening at large in our current culture.

For myself, my clients, and my business… I can’t be negligent.

Here are 4 signals that I have been feeling recently that I wanted to share with you, so you can be in tune as well.

Beloved YouTuber Hank Green is currently experiencing a digital witch hunt for his use of AI.

How did he use it? In his monologue, he says “A better way to say it, and appreciate the pushback”.

This signalled to the viewer that he was using a chatbot to write his think pieces.

Fans were distraught.

He’s THE “SMART” GUY. He can’t use AI.

He then apologized and is continuing to deal with the negativity online.

L.A. rapper “Fenix Flexin” had a hit on his hands that dropped about a month ago.

“Rubberz” instantly took the world by storm, blowing up online. The song had sprinkles of hip-hop culture along with lyrics from Morrissey.

It didn’t feel like it was from our time… but maybe this is the next evolution in music? ‘80s-inspired rap?

The following weeks would be a series of Fenix Flexin digging himself a deeper and deeper grave.

He told lie after lie, saying he never used AI, even though more and more evidence was coming to light that he had.

Finally, the nail in the coffin. Someone found out how to AI-generate songs exactly like Fenix Flexin, the tools he used, and how he did it.

It was then posted online, along with the AI music creation tool’s CEO confirming that Fenix Flexin had used their tools to create the music.

I have trouble seeing Fenix Flexin have much of a career after this. He told too many lies in order to hide his use of AI.

Finally, we have events and restaurants using AI for their menus and ads.

This has become a widespread phenomenon.

Business owners love these designs because they are so cheap, that they are practically free.

But they are hated and mocked online.

Grand opening, grand closing.

All of these three topics have something in common.

AI witch hunts. AI cancel culture.

They resemble 2016 cancel culture, but more unified.

People across the political aisle are hating all these situations.

It’s a new phenomenon that I expect to se by @bfecreative
