Dream History - Thank you to everyone who joined us for A Dream History, a special WEIRD MIAMI bus tour presented with O, Miami and led by poet Mathias Svalina.Together, we traveled through Miami as both dreamers and historians, exploring imagined pasts, impossible events, and the stories that shape our understanding of the city. BFI Presents Aaron Young’s video “Drop” for BFI’s new public art series “Video Drive By” currently showing at the Miami Beach Bandshell canopy.Video Drive By, is a curatorial initiative from Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI), projecting video art by local and global artists onto the Bandshell canopy on non-performance nights, using cutting-edge digital mapping to energize the neighborhood so passer by’s can experience video art every day of the week.“Aaron Young’s video Drop (2012) is a slo-mo homage to car worship and the lambent sunscapes of the American West. This dreamy short recasts the photogenic vintage automobile as a falling star—cinematic and cultural—whose mythology is larger than life. Young’s riff on destruction and resurrection is both hyper masculine and quietly reverent, a morsel of action that requires no dialogue. It is the car crash of movie magic softened by hushed drama and the long drive, or descent, to nowhere.” (Credit: Charity Coleman)Young was born in 1972 in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco Art Institute in 2001 and then received an MFA from Yale University in 2004. The artist lives and works in New York City. His work has been exhibited internationally in many exhibitions including P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City (2005), the Whitney Biennial, New York (2006), the Serpentine Gallery, London (2006) and the 2nd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, (2007). by @bfi.miami

The Department of Reflection’s one-night performance-based exhibition “No longer stuck, but still… in the middle with you” included a rousing participatory work titled “Untitled Scene - Birthday Cake Mirror Game” led by Liz Ferrer with Bow Ty on emotes, misael soto on candle, and Jenna Balfe on whoopee cushion. As with the rest of the works in the show, Untitled Scene was collaboratively envisioned in response to conversations over the past year between the artists related to aging, community, family, and the creative process. Thank you to the artists and incredible audience who came out to share the experience with us, and to the Miami Beach Botanical Garden for hosting the event in such a majestic setting. And a special thank you to photographer Chantal Lawrie @chantal_lawrie for capturing these moments so beautifully. by @bfi.miami

Announcing the 2026 cohort of Heat Exchange: Arts & Infrastructure from the Tropics to the Arctic, a research residency organized by Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI), a Miami-based nonprofit arts organization:Sheherazade Thénard (@sheherazade.thenard) — artist, curator, and educator whose painting and self-portraiture traces their family’s migration from Martinique through Afro-Caribbean symbolism and Black feminist media. They are also a co-founder of Little Islands (littleislands.art), a platform that amplifies Caribbean creative voices, connecting artists and stories across the diaspora through an archipelagic lens, asking, as the project puts it: when we think of ourselves as little islands, how do we begin to recognize the invisible currents that connect us?James Balo (@balobanton) — Queer Black Haitian-Jamaican multidisciplinary artist and storyteller raised by the vast Caribbean communities of Miami, dedicated to archiving honest Black family history and Caribbean folk origin stories. His practice weaves together tactile and digital collage, archival photography, textile, and spoken word — work that operates as ritual assignment and offering to ancestors, entirely activated by community engagement. This is Balo’s first international residency and first time outside the United States.johann c. muñoz-tapasco (@johanncmunoz) — artist, educator, and collective organizer whose practice spans sound, installation, and performance across multiple continents and languages. muñoz-tapasco’s work delves into how individuals and communities reconstruct their identities in the aftermath of mass-level traumatic events, harnessing sound for its power to evoke what he calls “unforgetting.” He consistently builds infrastructure for artists outside of traditional institutional frameworks, in particular with Miami organizations A4A (Artists for Artists) and Guitars Over Guns. by @bfi.miami

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our conversation with Josh Kline at the Rubell Museum!Known for immersive installations that address labor precarity, class inequity, climate crisis, and the social implications of emerging technologies, Kline’s work examines the conditions shaping contemporary life and the future of human survival. His practice resonates strongly within Miami, where questions surrounding climate vulnerability, economic instability, labor, and development continue to shape the lived realities of artists and cultural workers.For over two decades, BFI has developed artist-centered programming that engages urgent social, political, and economic issues affecting Miami’s cultural landscape. Through initiatives such as “Heat Exchange,” BFI’s ongoing residency and research platform connecting artists in Miami and Norway, the organization has explored the structural differences between subtropical and subarctic cultural economies, with a particular focus on labor conditions, sustainability, and infrastructure within the arts.Kline’s work enters into direct conversation with these concerns on an international scale, making this presentation a timely opportunity for Miami artists and audiences to engage broader questions about cultural production, instability, and collective futures.A special thank you to @joshklinejoshkline for sharing his work and ideas, and to the @rubellmuseum for hosting this event and helping make the conversation possible.Here are a few moments from the event.
