Basic skills are the foundation for great firefighters, and your BGFD firefighters consistently train on the basics that lead up to advanced firefighting techniques and tactics.

This week, crews rotated through a series of these basic skills, from turnout and mask up times, to forcing doors and throwing ladders for a VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search). In addition, we trained on our new “bailout bags.” While we hope to never have to utilize these in a real situation, the bailout system is designed to allow firefighters rapid egress from multi-story buildings should conditions rapidly deteriorate or other points of egress become inaccessible.

We train for all scenarios to ensure when the call comes, we’re ready. #makeitbetter by @bgkyfire

The Bowling Green Fire Department is on scene investigating an early-morning fire at Riverwoods Apartments.

At 4:56 a.m. units were dispatched to the apartments on Bryant Way for smoke in the building. First arriving units upgraded the response to request additional units for a structure fire. BGFD is grateful for the assistance of The Bowling Green Police Department in evacuating the neighboring apartments. by @bgkyfire

Two years ago, our brother, Engineer Stephen “Rosie” Rosebrook, didn’t get to finish the race. Today and every day, we finish that race for him and his family.

While he is not here physically, he is here with us every day, in all we do.

His memory lives on in the brotherhood he helped build, the lives he touched, and the example he left behind. We carry his name, his spirit, and his legacy with us every step of the way.

Today, we run for Rosie. by @bgkyfire

Four weeks have come and gone for BGFD’s first class of lateral firefighters, and tonight, these four took the oath to Serve, Save, and Protect the citizens of Bowling Green.

We have every confidence that these men are ready to step up to this next challenge, carry the BGFD name with pride, and make the family proud.

Join us in congratulating these four on this accomplishment and the beginning of this next chapter! by @bgkyfire

This morning, 28 of our own completed the climb of 110 floors among 343 total firefighters.

While the task may have been daunting, these guys were there for a much larger purpose: to honor those who selflessly worked and sacrificed their lives 25 years ago.

Every step was a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood that define the fire service. We will never forget the 343 who made the ultimate sacrifice, nor the countless others whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. by @bgkyfire
