The President's Leadership Academy is a four year leadership development program that engages scholars in service, classes, workshops, and learning. We look to help scholars grow and become confident in their leadership style and philosophy.

This video was created by Early Bird Films, a production company founded and owned by PLA Alumni, Matt Henkes, part of the 2014 cohort.

Thank you Early Bird Films, and thank you Matt! by @bgsupla

This past Friday, all 130 of our current scholars had the opportunity to hear from and speak to Dr. Sidney A. Ribeau and Dr. Paula Whetsel-Ribeau. On campus for Dr. Whetsel-Ribeau’s recognition as a 2026 inductee into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame, they spent time speaking with our students about the success of the program, their dream for the future of the program, and their belief in our youth. We are so grateful for the time spent together and are proud to carry President Ribeau’s legacy forward. taken in Bowling Green State University by @bgsupla

This summer, Samuel Banks (2024 cohort) put leadership into action as a Supply Chain Project Manager Intern with Kroger Supply Chain in Cincinnati!

Hear what Samuel had to say about his experience below:

“One of the biggest connections I saw to PLA was the importance of leadership through service, relationships, and action. Much of my project required listening to associates and leaders doing the work every day, asking good questions, building consensus across groups, and taking initiative when something needed to move forward. PLA has continually challenged me to think about leadership as more than having a title, and I really saw that come to life this summer.” by @bgsupla

This summer, Emily Genson (2024 cohort) gained valuable hands-on experience as a Summer Commercial Intern with Marathon Petroleum Corporation in Brand Marketing! Through projects focused on consumer behavior, brand strategy, and customer engagement, Emily strengthened her confidence, communication skills, and professional network.

Her experience also gave her the opportunity to put her PLA leadership skills into practice:

“That lesson I took away from my term at Marathon strongly correlates to my experience in President's Leadership Academy. PLA has continually challenged me to think about leadership as something rooted in service, relationships, personal growth, and positively impacting others. Throughout my internship, I found myself drawing on many of the skills PLA has helped me develop—from communicating confidently and working with people who have different perspectives to being willing to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.”

We’re excited to see how Emily continues to carry these lessons forward as she returns to BGSU for her junior year! by @bgsupla

As we continue recognizing awardees from the Sidney A. Ribeau President’s Leadership Academy Annual Banquet and Senior Colloquium, we are proud to present the Friend of the PLA Award.

This award honors an individual who has made a meaningful impact on the PLA through their support, mentorship, and commitment to student success.

This year’s recipient, Adrienne Ausdenmoore, has played an instrumental role in uplifting and supporting PLA scholars, leaving a lasting mark on the program. Building on PLA’s early integration of life design beginning in 2019, she immediately engaged as a collaborator and thought partner, recognizing both the potential and the progress already underway. Volunteering her time alongside her team to co-create a design thinking and leadership curriculum for the PLA summer program and has continued to teach in the years since.

Thanks to Adrienne, our scholars leave with a strong foundation in design thinking and a deeper sense of agency in shaping their college experience.

We are grateful to Adrienne for her continued partnership and impact. by @bgsupla
