Hi little brother.

I remember you were the first person I talked to on the phone. G & I were sitting on Elsie’s porch. After that, admittedly, I was just a stranger to you. I didn’t do a good job being an older sister to you and should have tried harder. It almost felt like I’m not allowed to grieve your loss because I should have done better.

Meanwhile, you held the family down in every way. You grew up too quickly a became the protector of so many.

& now everyone is broken without you. Everyone. All the kids miss you so much. I promise, wherever I am, I’ll always do everything in my power to make sure they’re okay.

Right after your transition, I didn’t know how to show up for your brother. He is hurting in a way I can’t pretend to understand. I was searching through movies, and an animated movie popped up. Migration. It came out in 2023 and I had never heard of it. After watching, it’s undeniable that energy can never be destroyed.

The movie was about a macaw trying to make it back home. A macaw who was the protector. A macaw named Delroy. He was trying to make it back home. Home to Jamaica. Back home to Delores.

Delores, our family’s matriarch. Miss Delly & Delly back together flying high through the trees. In absolute paradise.

A child has been unalived every 10 minutes.

And this woman, the world’s idol, just finished a sold out world tour without saying one word. Well now you have spoken loud and and clear. Your decision to screen your movie in israhell is not surprising for many of us. To the fans that hype her up and don’t hold their idols accountable, this reflects on you. SHAKTI.

You give your Mausi strength every single day.

The strength to wake up and get out of bed.

The strength to pull through those dark moments when grief feels unbearable.

You give me the strength to want to live each moment and not survive it.

When you were delivered, I will always remember the walk over to finally see your face. It was 5 steps away but It felt so long like I couldn’t get there fast enough!

Finally being able to see you was, a feeling that I cannot put into words no matter how much I tried. Your perfect little button nose. That little pout. Your big feet like Mausi, and that amazing head of hair (also like Mausi)

That day a new version of all of us were born. The best version.

You are the definition of perfection. You are everything good and beautiful in this world.

Your smile creates galaxies. And you create our entire universe.
