Still so thrilled to be able to hold this one in my hands 🥹❤️

I’d love for you to help me celebrate the release of HERO HEART at Success Library on Saturday 13 June 📚✨ We’ll have a cuppa, some cupcakes, and tell you all about this new YA fantasy adventure.

It’s free to come along, just let my mum know how many cupcakes to make by reserving a place through Cockburn Libraries (I’ve popped the link in my bio)

I hope to see you there, friends! 🥰

Hi! 👋 I’m Bianca. I’ve been writing stories my whole life but committed to writing novels nearly 10 years ago. I write fantasy for children and young adults, with a big emphasis on heart and a gentle approach to mental health discussions - and a whole lot of adventure, too ⚔️

My debut YA is releasing next year with Stag Beetle Books. A new title is in discussion, but it’s about a girl who lives on a distant, nature-less planet and wants to be a world famous inventor. She seizes her chance to invent something that’s going to save the world when a comet approaches ⚒️💫🌿

I live in Perth, WA, so I really love and appreciate Australian YA stories and try to champion our homegrown talent so that young people can see themselves reflected on the page, and aspiring authors feel inspired and emboldened to turn their writing dreams into reality.

Thanks for being here, I can’t wait to swap stories with you 💖

This week is WA Mental Health Week 💚

Here are just some of the books that have helped me feel seen or understood myself better (not pictured: THE GAPS by @leannehallll, which helped me understand my grief over losing a friend at 16.)

I’ve also slowly been moving THE WHISPER TREE up my writing pile. I’ve got heaps of ideas on how to improve it, including making it a bit more autobiographical, which is terrifying but feels so important 📝✨

Take care of yourselves, and remember how mindful and helpful reading a book can be 😌💖

I won the lotto! 🎉

Okay technically it was a three-book giveaway but to me they’re the same thing 😌

I’m so thrilled to have won this trilogy from @midnightsunpublishing by @zenashapter 😍 WHEN DARK ROOTS HUNT, WHEN DARK WATERS BURN and WHEN DARK WORLDS RISE are a YA speculative trilogy that sounds so perfect for spooky season. When Dark Roots Hunt has been on my TBR for so long and now I get to binge all three?! The dream.

I can’t wait to dive in so look out for another post with my thoughts in the coming weeks! 🥰

Thank you again Midnight Sun for running the giveaway!

I still remember where I was when I put the first words of what would become MADE OF STEAM AND STARDUST down in 2018 🛠️💫

Thank you again @statelibrarywa for such a wonderful experience, and @socostudios_ for capturing such lovely pictures!

I hope this book finds a new home soon 🤞✨ I’m not ready for it to end here.

Wowza… what a gorgeous book by @allaynewebster! 😍

SELFIE follows teen girl Tully who befriends the new girl at school, Dene. Dene is a teen influencer with other a million followers on Instagram and dozens of sponsorship deals. Buuuut of course, not everything is as it seems.

This gorgeous coming of age explores the effects of social media, discerning what’s real and what’s not, family, friends, and so much more. I loved the journey Tully went on throughout the novel as she learned what made a good friend as well as the kind of person she wanted to be 💖

Even though the world of social media moves fast, I think this novel still holds up and holds so many important messages for teens. I can’t recommend it for young people enough for them to understand the lie that social media can be sometimes, and how to be a good friend ✨

Loved loved LOVED it!

THE EVERWOLF STORY HOUR 🐺✨

Hoo boy I am so tired but feels good to have managed over 2,200 words when I really wasn’t feeling it! I’m definitely going to have to do some planning for this little short story trilogy but for now… sleep 😴

I’m rewatching Buffy and will have to take note of episode structure next time because I definitely feel like this would fit as an episode 😅

And for my next trick, I will ramble about how good FIVE VOICES is for 3 minutes 😌

I enjoyed this YA murder mystery by @writermoss so much 😭 The concept of the podcast was sensational, every character was such a standout, the twists were so damn twisty, and I had a hard time putting this book down.

What a fun reading experience! I just wish I looked slightly more glamorous when I read but oh well 😂

GO READ FIVE VOICES OKAY BYEEEEE

Thank you @allenandunwin for sending me a copy to love! ❤️

Have you recently had a book totally take you by surprise?

THE REBOUND by @fionamharris wasn’t on my radar when I received a copy from @allenandunwin (🫶🫶🫶) and honestly, I’m not a big fan of sport books but thought I’d give it a go anyway.

And omg. It almost had me sobbing by the end of chapter 1!

The book follows 14 y/o Harry, who, after a period of grief, misses tryouts for the top basketball team at school and ends up playing with the worst 🏀

The story is absolutely gorgeous. I found Harry’s ongoing journey with grief to be so real and emotional without ever getting too heavy for a young audience. His gradual learning to work with his new teammates and understand that maybe winning isn’t everything was so expertly done, super satisfying, and super important.

I still can’t believe how much of a surprise this book was too me and I can’t recommend it enough for young readers, even if they’re not fans of sport! I’m so glad I read this 💜

What book took you by surprise?

Thank you again, @allenandunwin!

THE EVERWOLF STORY HOUR 🐺✨

Writing short stories is my favourite way to world build and develop character, and with the world of the Everwolf Chronicles being so big, there’s a lot to figure out! So I’m making the writing of these short stories more of a regular habit, which I also hope are a great way for you to get to know the world, the story and the characters before the first novel is published and without spoiling it either! 😍

This was so much fun and is already very helpful to explore a world where supernatural wolves were everywhere ✨

ABOUT THE EVERWOLF CHRONICLES (BOOK ONE)

Twelve-year-old Callum Marrok is the worst trainee at Breaker’s Hall, where kids train to protect the storm-battered Isle of Kelthorn from the everwolves beyond the electric fence.

When a supposedly extinct Silver Coin everwolf appears, Callum sees his chance to prove himself. But instead of finding a monster, he discovers Thistlepaw, a talking everwolf pup who needs his help.

As the fence begins to fail and a deadly storm closes in, Callum must choose between everything he’s been taught and the strange new friendship that could change how humans and everwolves see each other forever.
