If you’re a new makeup artist trying to get your name out there, start with fashion shows.

Find a local designer, photographer, or event coordinator and ask if they know of any upcoming shows — there’s almost always something happening in your city if you ask the right people.

Here’s why it’s one of the best ways to grow:

💄 You’ll build powerful connections.
Fashion shows are full of photographers, models, stylists, and designers. People remember energy — and face-to-face interactions leave a lasting impression. Bring business cards if you have them, or at least exchange Instagram handles. Afterward, message them with a photo of you two together so they remember who you are.

💄 You’ll refine your craft fast.
Depending on the size of the show, you could be working on 4 to 15 models in one event. You’ll quickly learn what products you reach for most, what’s unnecessary in your kit, and how to work efficiently under pressure.

💄 You’ll gain diverse experience.
You’ll work with every skin tone, type, and face shape — and often be challenged to create looks outside your comfort zone. It’s an amazing opportunity to expand your skill set and artistic range. Don’t be nervous; trust that you’ll figure it out. Stay curious.

💄 Your work becomes a walking advertisement.
Every model who steps on that runway is showcasing your artistry. The more faces you paint, the more eyes see your work. People will remember and ask who did the makeup — even if not immediately, they’ll keep your name for future projects.

💄 You’ll start building your portfolio.
Ask models if they’re okay with you taking before-and-after photos. It’s an excellent way to capture your work in real-time and start showing your versatility online.

💄 You’ll learn how to manage time under pressure.
Runway work teaches you discipline. You’ll understand your pace, your strengths, and what needs refining — it’s one of the fastest ways to grow as a professional.

A lot of women don’t enjoy getting their periods… but I’m not one of them.

I’ve actually come to appreciate the process.

There’s something about the mental heaviness that arrives before the physical shedding—the emotional weight, the introspection, the quiet confrontation with yourself. And then the pain of menstruation itself… it almost feels like cutting away an older version of me so a newer one can emerge. Watch me talk about this while I get ready for date night with my love.

This is just my way of making sense of what I experience each month—stepping back and observing the chaos through the lens of something meaningful, even beautiful.

If you get periods, you know the feeling I’m talking about.

My hope is that maybe this perspective can help reframe these moments a little. I’ve come to believe this time is sacred in its own way, and that every phase of the cycle carries its own purpose.

Maybe it might even help you appreciate your time of the month just a little more.
