LA-based nonprofit advancing Biddy Mason’s legacy by serving current and former foster youth and sharing Black history.

The success of current and former foster youth is never an afterthought 💙 In the early days of LA, Biddy Mason went from enslavement to entrepreneur. She never forgot her roots, and fought for others—including children without permanent families—to have access to care and education. She’s our inspiration, the reason BMCF is included in the @npsnetworktofreedom Underground Railroad map, and the heart of our foster youth scholarship program! Thank you @bobby.field1 for capturing this special moment in our history 💫 taken in Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation by @biddy_mason

Started from Thanksgiving, now we’re here🌱 BMCF began because a core group of people in LA started listening—and responding—to what current and foster youth in LA needed. As we continue our 11th year of service, we’ll be sharing more about who we are, what we do, and who we impact 💚 Thank you for following along! • • • #biddymasoncharitablefoundation #biddymason #fostercare #fosteryouth #formerfosteryouth #fostercaresystem #originstory #history #losangeles by @biddy_mason

Joining hands to support our community youth! Members of Beverly Hills West (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated recently gathered to donate and sort essential hygiene items at The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation, directly supporting the foster youth served by the organization. After completing the sorting onsite, members had the opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about Mason’s extraordinary contributions to Los Angeles. #BeverlyHillsWestLinks #WALinks #TheLinksInc by @biddy_mason

Don’t know much about Biddy Mason? This book will change that! We’re thrilled to partner with historian Dr. Kevin Waite and @vromansbookstore to celebrate the launch of “The Boundless Biddy Mason” 💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿 For every copy pre-ordered through Vroman’s, $10 will be donated to Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation to support foster youth in Los Angeles. PLUS: Kevin will personally sign each pre-ordered copy ❤️ Kevin has been an invaluable friend to BMCF and a critical resource on Biddy Mason, Hannah Embers, and the hidden history of slavery in California. Your purchase helps foster youth, supports an indie bookstore, champions historical research, and raises awareness for Biddy’s extraordinary story! Pre-order your signed copy at: vromansbookstore.com/pre-order-kevin-waite 📖 #biddymason #kevinwaite #vromans #blackhistory #fosteryouth In 2024, Dr. Waite presented research for the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation on Biddy’s story and how slavery found its way to the west. Honored to be in the room with descendants of Hannah Embers, an enslaved woman in LA who also received her freedom due to Biddy’s court case! taken in Los Angeles, California by @biddy_mason

Biddy Mason won her freedom from slavery through the LA court system, became one of the city’s earliest Black landowners, helped found First African Methodist Episcopal Church, and used her success to care for people in need and lift up the community that would become one of the world’s most vibrant corridors. As Pershing Square enters a new chapter, one of Downtown’s most visible civic spaces should more fully reflect the people who built this city. I’m thankful to @famechurch for their support and partnership to establish this space as Biddy Mason Park. It’s through your continued work to uplift our communities that we can fulfill this initiative with the honor it deserves – moving forward with the people who live, honor, and feel the impacts of Biddy Mason’s work every day. by @biddy_mason
