Possibly SA's most beautiful magazine right now, loved writing for @the_jack_journal about Cape Town's Portuguese enclave in Woodstock "Little Madeira", history came alive through Leah Hawker’s lens, thanks Dave Cotton for reminding me that Dias Tavern's owner Joe Hilario hails from Madeira, too. Memories backpacking Turkiye before my 30th birthday. Istanbul, Grand Bazaar, Fethiye boat cruise over days to Olympos (solitary hike up Mt Chimeara - so scary with wild owls like Twin Peaks), Kaş pirate party.

Sultanahmet view from pension roof terrace. Guy with a Dragon Tattoo from Slovenia; his tattoo still needed work but artist had been jailed on drug charges before it could be completed, he relayed.

More pension roof deck friends: man next to me was from Bulgaria & had earlier been reading Catch 22 Joseph Heller, I was instantly smitten. Also lovely Takuro from Tokyo.

BELVILLE. CY plates strike fear into the hearts of seasoned Cape Town motorists. Indeed, a Bellville motorbike thundering closer on the N1 might well trigger fight or flight, or a mildly panicked yield at least.
