Meet David Wood! Who can say they have a 6ft9 club manager? An injury-prone giant but we’re hoping to have Dave back fully fit next season! An absolute legend at the club – on and off the court – and someone who does so much to keep the club together. Get to know him a little bit better below! βΈ» How did you first get involved in basketball, and what keeps you coming back to the game? I was in Year 7 at Notre Dame High School, and my form tutor ran the school basketball team πŸ€. He got me involved, and I’ve never looked back πŸ”™. What keeps me coming back is the love of the game and the people I’ve met through it ❀️‍πŸ”₯. βΈ» What’s your favourite position to play and why? Centre is my role 🧱. I love helping teammates by drawing defenders in and creating chances for others 🀝. But I really enjoy help defence – giving teammates the confidence to step up, knowing I’ll back them up πŸ›‘οΈ. βΈ» Can you share a memorable moment from a game or practice that made you proud? The 2021/22 cup final πŸ†. After years at the club – being Norfolk’s lowest-ranked team, losing three finals, finishing second – winning the league and cup double felt amazing πŸ₯‡. Surviving Covid made it even more special πŸ’ͺ. βΈ» How do you balance basketball with other aspects of your life? With great difficulty πŸ˜…. Some jobs are easier than others, but as long as I can play, I’m happy 🧠. If work gets in the way, it’s not the right job ❌. Life is short – and your body’s window to play is even shorter ⏳. βΈ» What’s one skill you’re working on improving? While injured, I’m focusing on getting fit and strong again πŸ‹οΈ. Once I’m back, I want to improve finishing around the basket – put-backs and close-range shots πŸ€. Not flashy, but they win games βœ…. βΈ» We can’t wait to see Big Dave back on the court!
