RIP Larry Bertleman.
50 years ago, every one of us grommets were emulating Larry. Doing Bertlemans up driveways , embankments or out on a wave. When skating was an extension of surfing. When a hedge was a barell, a downhill a huge drop, or any embankment a chance for a massive cutty section. Thankyou for the inspiration Larry. by @bigbadbobbain

A moment captured by @spencerfrostfilms a little while back. A gentle reminder of how special the good days are, when in your own backyard and the joy it brings us all.

“Red… your last wave score was a 3.6…..
 Red…a 3.6.”

“You now require a combination score of 16.5.”

“ There is 1.45 seconds remaining…………….

Aspiring pro surfers France 1985.
When sleeping in a tent in someone’s backyard in France , or in a board bag under the contest scaffolding in Japan, was all fair play.
The idea was, try get through the trials, have a crack at the big dogs and win enough prize money to get yourself onto the next event.
Chatting with the lads between heats at “ Tent City” Lacanau.
Ces Wilson, Mark ‘Grub’ Haymes ( and possibly Matt ‘Boomy’ Elks?).

By the River.
What a joy to watch this all come together.
So proud of these two @billy_bain and @kathleen_bain .
Kind of hard to find the right words , when you watch people you love, work so hard on something that is so meaningful and so connected to their story and family lineage.
For this exhibition, to be the first solo show by a Dharug artist in the NSW Art Gallery’s 155 year history, is such a special moment for Bill and our family. And to collaborate with his mum, very cool.
A story of the “ Burra” the long finned eel , moving from saltwater to fresh water.
About reconnection to Dharug culture and the stories of ancestors, family and the Boorooborongal people of the upper Dyarubbin ( Hawkesbury River).
How culture can move like the river, flowing, adapting and finding its way.
As a dad and husband, I just wanted to celebrate this milestone, watching from the sidelines and knowing the challenges faced to actually pull this thing off. Respect ❤️
For anyone who hasn’t visited the exhibition , please do.
Just go , and take a moment to simply stand in it! by @bigbadbobbain

Friday Flashie
Rocky Point, circa 1989.
About 10 minutes after this lovely image was captured, I stupidly ( accidentally) dropped in on and then proceeded to run over a very large local fellow.
Legropes became entangled,…no escape …then numerous face slaps were received.
Lessons learnt.
Thanks for the memory @joliphotos . by @bigbadbobbain

Surf sessions have been a bit few and far of late. And also rare that we get a day that stays offshore through until dark. So when you are gifted a little arvo moment , with the potential of an early rise in a long range east swell.. you take it.
Thanks for capturing said moment @adam.eyes by @bigbadbobbain

Long lulls..but some east swell, a sunny arvo, and a stiff offshore breeze ain’t bad!
Felt nice to take big blue out for leisurely stroll.
Cheers for the shot
