When I launched @bigbropaint back in February, I never imagined we’d be here so quickly. Today, I’m grateful to be holding my son in front of our company’s first truck. This isn’t about the truck – it’s about believing in a vision, delivering for our clients, & building something real for my family. Very few know this, but when Grant was 6 weeks old, I was unexpectedly fired from my $150k/year enterprise software sales job. It was January 20th, I’d just returned from paternity leave the week prior. They pulled me into a meeting & fired me without severance or cause. I was completely blindsided. I promised myself that day I’d never rely on another person or company for the majority of my income again. With my family depending on me, two mortgages due each month, & so much at stake, I couldn’t afford to bet on anyone but myself. A week later, Big Bro Paint was born. I formed the LLC, hired a logo designer, had business cards and polos made, & got straight to work. I started in my neighborhood with what I know best: Sales. My approach was generate revenue & figure the rest out later. So I knocked door-to-door until every one of my neighbors knew my company’s name & value proposition. Introductions became estimates, estimates converted to jobs, & those jobs turned into happy clients. I treated every client like family and gave their homes the same care and respect I give my own. My hope was that they’d never forget their experience with my company & the quality of our work. In a matter of 6 weeks, we went from doing small repair jobs to full home exterior repaints & luxury commercial remodels. The business quickly replaced the W2 income I lost, but more importantly, it gave me more time with my wife & son. Fast forward to today, a short 5 months later, it’s helped me realize a dream I’ve had for years. I don’t normally share stuff like this, but the message felt too important not to: We don’t have to understand God’s plan. We just need to have faith in ourself & know when to go all in. If we show up daily, do the best work we can, & uplift those around us, the rest will work out exactly how it’s supposed to. Onward and upward!
