International Tiger Day: Celebrating the Stripes of the WildEvery year on July 29, we come together to observe International Tiger Day, a global initiative to raise awareness about tiger conservation. It’s a day to celebrate one of the most majestic and iconic big cats on Earth, the tiger, and to reflect on our collective responsibility to protect its future.𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱?International Tiger Day was launched in 2010, during the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit, where 13 tiger-range countries committed to a bold goal: to double the number of wild tigers by 2022, a mission known as TX2. This step was taken in response to alarming reports showing that tiger numbers had fallen drastically — from over 100,000 a century ago to fewer than 3,200 in the wild by 2010.This day is not just a reminder of the threats tigers face, but also a celebration of the efforts being made by governments, conservationists, and communities to bring tiger populations back from the brink.𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿Tigers are more than just beautiful creatures, they are apex predators and play a vital role in maintaining the health of forest ecosystems. A healthy tiger population means healthy forests, which are essential for climate stability, water security, and biodiversity. In short, saving tigers means saving forests, and ultimately, ourselves.India, which is home to over 70% of the world’s wild tiger population, plays a pivotal role in global tiger conservation. Me By the Moonlight - 32Babli - The mesmerizerThere are very few days when on a lazy afternoon in Tadoba in the full day safari under cool shade and you find a magical tigress doing her afternoon siestaIt was a welcome surprise as I was very drowsy beside my driver and was almost sleeping when driver nudged me and told “Sir Road pe Bagh hai”.And there she was Babli - the beautiful tigressTadoba is a pure bliss as far as tigers are concerned because it throws so many surprises at you. Being a Tiger lover it was like a kid left to wander in Candyland. Sighting Stories - 33Babli - The elegant oneIt was afternoon on the 9th March , and after superb morning encounter with Collarwali at the Teliya lake we were scouring the Jungle again to catch the ongoing action in different parts of the forest.We investigated the lakes and water bodies and reached open grassland near the Navegaon gate where in the morning we had heard alarm calls in the morning.With the Sun blazing down mercilessly and the animals also taking rest I started to feel drowsy sitting beside my driver.My senses were awaken by a jolt when my driver said“Bhaiya Bagh hai road k baju main”And there she was, the gorgeous Babli resting under the tree by the road side.This thread will have more pictures of her coming up soon. Me by the Moonlight - 32Indian Gaur - The different oneI know I have always been pretty expressive about my fascination with the big cats but there are other interesting inhabitants of the forest who can be quite temperamental when met at close quarters.Sometimes even dangerous than Tigers.Indian Gaurs or Bison as they are fondly called are one of the heaviest beasts to roam our Indian forests.A full grown male can weigh up to 1200 kgs which is good enough to topple an occupied Gypsy.During safaris it is always suggested to maintain respectable distance from them as they can be quite violent at times specially if mother is accompanied by calves.This click of Gaur standing on the road during morning safari is one such picture which I thought would be worth to share.Again thanks to @bigcatsindia and @atraveler_krunal for excellent safari arrangements.#rishabhnaiduphotography #mebythemoonlight #canonindiaofficial #canonindia_official #vibewithcanon #tadobaofficial by @bigcatssafari
