It was a tough thing to watch a kid who has a heart so big, feel the pain of letting people who showed him love, support and offered him positions in their programs, down. So just know, it didn’t go without deep thought and consideration. With that said, Sylas @syguythegreat48 has chosen to call @stlukesfootball home this fall! Much love to Coach Johnson @ndp.football and Coach Phipps @hopfb1873 it’s still all love from us! We truly appreciate you!Thank you to @dbcoachty_ we appreciate you pulling up to the crib, texting to check on us when 2 of his granddads passed and championing him through the hallways of the school. Definitely appreciate the calls with you and @roddy.k_og2 lol. Also much appreciation to all the admissions staff for working on break to get this done. *EXCUSE THE LONG POST BUT ITS NECESSARY*MY FATHER, MY DAD & MY POPS:MY FATHER- I got my looks, my business savvy, my love for tech and my need for multiple cars from my father. Even though I didn’t grow up with my father, seeing how much we are alike is bugged to me. We don’t have much history but we are working on great present and an amazing future. You stand tall for your grandkids but Most importantly, when my dad passed, he felt my pain and has been there, and checking on me all the time and that means more than anything to me! THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU!MY DAD- my competitive edge, my love of sports and sneakers (most definitely sneakers), my love for coaching, my family values and what it means to be a man, have come from you! You were 15/16 when you stepped in my life. You loved me, cared for me and gave me family (Powell’s). The fact you were my dad before you ever became a father changed how I viewed relationships. You always made sure you showed up for grandkids. I was never turned off because a woman had kids and if she did, they automatically became family to me! Losing you this year really got me fucked up. There’s so much I owed you I never got to give back. Keep guiding me and I’ll keep following! THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU & MISS YOU!MY POPS- my love for cooking for people, banana pudding, being a man of honor and value, being a single father and fighting for your family daily, I have learned watching and listening to you! When my mom and dad broke up and I got “too old” for certain stuff I got lost and was in a dark place. You sent for me, looked me in my eyes and said “You’re with me now!” And you stood by that until the day you passed last week! You never missed one of my games and even came to see my sons play! My grandson don’t like many people at all and you said “give me that baby!” And he didn’t bat an eye or drop a tear! THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU & MISS YOU!Prayfully this finally make sense to those of you are confused when I say “My dad passed” “ My Pops passed” but my father’s alive. All 3 can be true! This must be what they mean when they say life has its HIGHS and has its LOWS. SAME DAY… 2 DIFFERENT CELEBRATIONS! The man who helped mold the father I am and my youngest graduating middle school were both honored for their accomplishments. Pop Dukes had a beautiful send off! You can now rest and be at peace! JOB. EXCEPTIONALLY. WELL. DONE. Sy, this is just the beginning of your story! Greatness is upon you and I will be there every step of the way to make sure no one or nothing interferes with that!
