The Caesar salad has a surprisingly Italian name… 🇮🇹🇲🇽

Despite the name, it wasn’t created in Italy. The Caesar salad is widely credited to Italian American restaurateur Caesar Cardini, who created it at his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, in the 1920s.

Legend has it that on a busy 4th of July weekend in 1924, the kitchen was running low on ingredients. Cardini threw together what he had left at the table, using romaine lettuce, Parmesan, croutons, egg, olive oil, lemon and Worcestershire sauce.

The original was prepared tableside, with the whole leaves served so diners could pick them up with their hands.

Nearly 100 years later, it’s still one of the most famous salads in the world.

And yes, despite what many versions suggest, the original Caesar salad didn’t contain chicken, but I love it with some skin on roast chicken and a few crispy roast new potatoes! @hellmannsuk Caesar dressing is one of the best I’ve found too! Unless you’re going for scratch!

Simple food, done really well at @cafefrancoislondon.

The quarter chicken was perfectly cooked with crisp, golden skin and juicy meat, exactly what you want from a classic dish.

The real danger, though, was the unlimited chocolate mousse. Light, rich and impossible to stop going back for.

Sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable.

A very relaxed Sunday at the newly opened @thefox_dowdeswell.

I can’t wait to come back and work my way through the main menu, but today’s we had food from The Coal Yarde (by @coalhousebrewandque) The Hot Honey Chicken was genuinely one of the best chicken dishes I’ve had this year. Lovely skin, packed with flavour and finished with a subtle smoky note that added plenty without overpowering the dish! Smoked half corn-fed
chicken, jalapeño, hot honey, tomato, chilli salsa.

We also had the beef loaded fries on the side, which were really good, although with so much going on in the chicken I’d probably go for plain fries next time. That said, the loaded fries and a pint would be a brilliant combination on their own! Beef short rib loaded fries, chipotle mayo, cheese, spring onion, pickled chillies

An enjoyable visit, and definitely somewhere I’ll be returning to!

If you’re in Prague and love steak, make sure @georgeprimesteak is on your list.

My second visit and we went all in, and every course was exceptional.

The handmade foie gras tortellini with Madeira sauce and black truffle jus was rich, silky and a brilliant way to start. The fresh lobster and mascarpone agnolotti with roasted hazelnut butter and a drizzle of 12 year aged balsamic was another standout, while the black truffle mac and cheese was every bit as indulgent as it sounds.

Then came the steaks…

A 1kg USDA porterhouse, a 1kg Australian Wagyu tomahawk topped with foie gras, a superb Czech bone in sirloin that was probably my favourite of the evening, and a beautifully cooked 310g fillet served with king prawns. Every cut was cooked perfectly and packed with flavour.

Throw in an array of excellent sides and great service, and you’ve got one of the best steak meals I’ve had in a long time.

A fantastic restaurant and one I’d happily return to the next time I’m in Prague.

⭐️A superb afternoon at @tasteoflondon with some seriously good food on offer.

The standout for me was @rotikinguk. The lamb chops were incredible, glazed with an aromatic spice mix and served with peanut sauce. The grilled chicken satay was equally impressive, packed with lemongrass and spice and paired with a rich, nutty peanut sauce.

I also really enjoyed the beef fillet and dressed crab on sourdough crostini from @rottura_london both full of flavour and beautifully put together.

Another highlight was the lamb shoulder skewer from the @princearthur.belgravia, served with citrus aioli and pickled scallions.

Sun shining, great food everywhere you looked, and frozen margaritas from @eljimadoruk keeping things cool. A pretty perfect way to spend an afternoon.

A throw back to a special evening at @cheltenhamthetivoli as @barlasang travelled all the way from Mallorca for a one night only collaboration.

The menu was inspired by favourite people and places, and it showed. Every dish felt personal, packed with bold flavours, interesting ingredients and a real sense of place.

A couple of standouts for me were the sobrasada and honey toast, which struck that perfect balance of sweet, savoury and richness, and the suckling pig and chicory salad, a dish full of flavour and texture contrast.

The frit mallorquín was fascinating to try, packed with character and a real taste of Mallorca, while the dirty rice was rich, deeply flavoured and incredibly satisfying. The peppers and lemon brought freshness and balance before the almond cake and vanilla ice cream finished the meal beautifully.

A particular highlight was ending the evening with an espresso and Amazonas spiced rum. Simple, but a brilliant combination (don’t be driving)

A memorable evening of food, wine and Mallorcan hospitality in the heart of Cheltenham. More collaborations like this, please @cheltenhamthetivoli @petercreed1 @tomnoest! taken in Tivoli, Cheltenham by @bigeatsglobal

🥩 Great to be back in the kitchen for a relaxed Sunday cook.

280g fillet steak cooked just how I like it, finished with a rich sauce Diane, served alongside potato gratin, tenderstem broccoli and asparagus.

Quality ingredients, classic flavours and a reminder that some of the best meals are the ones cooked at home (just more mess!) taken in The Cotswolds by @bigeatsglobal

Amazing meal at @rapscallionrest . One of those places where every dish arriving at the table made you more excited for the next one.

The chicken liver brûlée was excellent. Rich, smooth and buttery with that crisp torched sugar crust cutting through perfectly.

One of the real highlights though was the whipped feta. So simple, but absolutely spot on. Bomba honey, persillade, chives and grilled baguette. The sort of dish you keep going back to for “one more bite”.

The hanger steak bordelaise was cooked beautifully and paired with foie butter and pecorino truffle fries that were hard to stop eating.

The pork schnitzel was another standout, crispy on the outside, tender in the middle, with herb mustard spaetzle, pepper gravy and house fermented sauerkraut bringing everything together.

The BC rockfish felt lighter but still full of flavour with Argentinian pink shrimp, new potatoes, lemon beurre blanc and capers.

We also tried the butternut squash risotto, spicy crispy calamari and the lemongrass chicken, all really well executed and full of flavour.

A seriously good meal from start to finish and definitely somewhere I would return to. taken in Hamilton, Ontario by @bigeatsglobal

Had a really good breakfast at Eggspectation on Bay Street in Toronto.

The BREAKFAST TACOS were packed with flavour. Three flour tortillas filled with scrambled free range eggs, cheddar, smoked bacon, breakfast sausage, chorizo and Lyonnaise style potatoes, topped with avocado, fresh jalapeño, pico de gallo and cilantro lime cream. Hearty, comforting and a great way to start the day.

We also shared the GRAND MARNIER FRENCH TOAST FLAMBÉE, which was definitely worth ordering. Brioche French toast with strawberries, banana and pecans, finished in a rich Grand Marnier maple butter sauce.

Already looking at going back to try the PRIME RIB BENEDICT and the BENE DUCK, both sounded excellent on the menu. taken in Eggspectation - Bay Street by @bigeatsglobal

First visit to @stlawrencemarket … what a place. So much incredible produce and food under one roof.

Loved the peameal sandwich with marmalade and hot pickles from Paddington’s Pump.

Also one of the biggest selections of oysters I think I’ve ever seen from the ones I tried, the Fanny Bay oysters were the standout.

Finished with an absolute stacked sandwich from @stackdkitchen:
Montreal smoked meat, beef brisket, rye bread, sauerkraut, mustard, Russian dressing and Swiss cheese, with a pickle spear and coleslaw on the side.

An absolute melting pot of food and cultures. I’ll definitely be back for round two. taken in St Lawrence Market by @bigeatsglobal

Had an excellent Sunday roast at @emberwoodbath definitely worth a visit.

I went for the pork belly, which was soft, succulent and full of flavour, with a proper crisp crackling on the outside. Lashings of gravy, plenty of veg, everything you want from a proper roast.

I’d definitely recommend adding the Pitchfork cheddar leeks and broccoli on the side, well worth it.

Good food, done right. taken in Bath, Somerset by @bigeatsglobal
