Three Pillars...

Why do we believe connection, growth, and service are important?

Keeping these as the foundation of what we do allows us to make lasting relationships with individuals, align with likeminded organizations, and work together to create change within the Veteran community and beyond.

As human beings, it’s not rocket science. We are wired to thrive when we have supportive communities, can meet challenging situations with a growth mindset, and live serving a higher purpose than just ourselves.

Big Fish Foundation seeks to create opportunities where we can shake up Veterans’ status quos so that they may be able to reassess and take control of their narratives and lives.

If you are a service member or Veteran and wonder, “Do these events apply to me? There are other people who probably need it more than I do,” then here is your sign that it IS for you, no matter your background or what season of life you’re in.

Attending an event, being in community with incredible human beings and opening your mind and heart can only add value to your life. We welcome you to join us. by @bigfish_foundation

A few weeks ago, this group spent time at XIT Ranch training with the cutting horses. Real Veterans getting an experience most people never get: the opportunity to learn from and ride with the pros. Opportunities like this is what your support at the Benefit Dinner makes possible.

At JL Bar this year our founder opened with a speech. In between itineraries and welcomes, he spoke of the importance of sharing stories.

“Sometimes we can feel like our stories are so unique, so special & no one is going to understand.

But you aren’t that special,
you aren’t that broken,
you aren’t that alone.”
/tosh

That weekend we witnessed Veterans connecting with others who knew the same story — even if they haven’t lived it the exact same way, they found common ground: they felt similarly, they struggled too, and they hadn’t shared until now.

Our stories are all different, but they’re not special in a way that isolates you. You aren’t alone.

This is the environment you’re supporting by attending our Benefit Dinner October 17. taken in Weatherford, Texas by @bigfish_foundation

We just wrapped up a Return To Base Program with PB Abbate Strength Club @pbabbate in Thompson Falls, Montana this weekend.

Veterans spent the weekend hiking, training, sitting in on guided discussions, and sharing meals together; time away from the noise to reconnect with who they are and what they value.

Thankful for the partnership and for everyone who showed up. taken in Thompson Falls, MT by @bigfish_foundation

It’s a line we come back to often, and it’s where some of the most impactful work we’ve been able to do is built from: A Veteran’s willingness to tell their story out loud can be the thing that opens someone else’s door.

That’s what Arena of Patriots is supporting: October 17 at XIT Ranch. Invest in the space where those stories get told. taken in Weatherford, Texas by @bigfish_foundation

We are excited to partner with @dean.properties to offer The Cowboy Experience: A three-day, ranch-based retreat for Veterans, hosted by Dean Properties in West Texas.

We encourage Veterans with no prior horse or ranch experience to apply.

Through horsemanship, ranch work, leadership workshops, and team-based challenges, Veterans will step away from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with purpose, community, and one another—all within an authentic cowboy environment built on service, resilience, responsibility, and accountability.

At the heart of the experience is The Cowboy Code: a simple framework built around showing up, doing hard things, taking care of your people, asking for help when you need it, and leaving things better than you found them.

This isn’t simply a retreat. It’s an opportunity for Veterans from across the country to work side-by-side, learn from one another, build meaningful relationships, and rediscover the strength that comes from belonging to something bigger than yourself.

Mike Sarraille is a retired Navy SEAL with two decades in Special Operations, including deployments to Ramadi and Sadr City. He’s since become a bestselling author and still teaches leadership, through the company he founded, Talent War Group. He also leads Legacy Expeditions, which has set four world records skydiving all seven continents in under seven days, honoring fallen service members along the way.

He’s our guest of honor at the 2nd Annual Benefit Dinner, October 17 at XIT Ranch. Tickets and table sponsorships open now → link in bio. taken in Weatherford, Texas by @bigfish_foundation

More on Jack Self, USMC. You can find the first part of his story on our page.

This isn’t a knock on anyone; it’s what it felt like in his head, adjusting from combat-level stakes to a world that didn’t ask the same of him.

More coming. by @bigfish_foundation
