During #bhthk2026 I wanted to shoot with a @fujifilmjp_x near the end of my trip. I’ve shot with a Fujifilm camera on almost every Hong Kong trip going back to 2013; but on the last two visits I haven’t brought any Fujifilm digital cameras with me, since I didn’t have any new gear to review. Luckily I have many friends in Hong Kong, and @kevinliuky loaned me his X100V + WCL-X100 for a couple of days.

These photos were captured during one of my weekend photowalks. It was fun going back and forth between the X100V and my Leica M7. Shooting with the X100V felt like cheating. Having shutter speeds over 1/1000th was nice, and being able to shoot without having to focus was a luxury I’m not use to. Seeing the images in real time compared to film was also a novelty, but wasn’t necessary either. Technology doesn’t guarantee a successful image, it only makes it easier.

Most of these images were captured in Central, while some were captured from inside a double decker bus on my way back to @camerafilmphoto to drop off everyone’s rolls of film from the photowalk. I have A/B photos comparing the Leica M7 + 28mm Summicron and the Fujifilm X100V, but that’s for a future article for @fujilovemag and a Youtube video. Thanks again @kevinliuky for loaning me the X100V. Next time I think I want to borrow your XF100-400mm for some insane compressed urban landscape pictures.

Continuing my #bhthkneon project has become more difficult as there’s less neon signs to photograph over the years. However, there are still more signs I haven’t discovered, so I’ll keep searching and shooting.

Captured with the @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron and @lightlenslab 50mm f/1.9 Super-Six with both Vandal 400T and @candidocollective 800T (rated at 400). Dev + Scan by @camerafilmphoto in Hong Kong. For me, even if I had to ship my negs from Canada to get them developed and scanned, it’s worth it, as long as you have 10 rolls or more.

I borrowed the Fujifilm DL Super Mini aka CARDia TiaRA from @chrismeetschris pre-loaded with @candidocollective 200 film, meaning he already shot half the roll before giving it to me. I think the camera was accidentally opened mid-roll before I received it (remember it pre-rolls the film out and then rolls it back in) as the light leaks slowly got less obtrusive as I finished the roll.

I started the roll on the last @coffee.cameras.things meet-up before taking off to Hong Kong, and finished the final frame (first photo) on my first day in Hong Kong as I got to @camerafilmphoto to have the film developed and scanned. Even though the light leaks are errors, I still like them. It’s these happy accidents that keeps film photography interesting for me.

Fun fact: Chris bought the DL Super Mini from Camera Film Photo back in 2019 when he came with me to Hong Kong on my #bhthk2019ii project. I thought it would be poetic to bring the camera back home. Good times. More photos from the DL Super Mini from Hong Kong coming soon.

Roll Call Day 2 in Sham Shui Po with @camerafilmphoto. This is @vsoniji’s favourite spot for street photography, and he always insists we shoot black and white. So I’m keeping the tradition alive.

Film of choice is @ilfordimaging XP2 since we can have it processed and scanned and ready to share, same day. @camerafilmphoto always does a great job. I used my regular combo of @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron V.1.

Thanks for today’s participants @chung_mts @mediumjones @vince_lifeinfocus with special guest appearance @priscillayustudio. This is our second time being in HKG at the same time, the first being back in 2019. I also bumped into @dereckkwokcalligraphy. I recognized him easily.

Roll Drop in Central District in collaboration with @camerafilmphoto. I’m always excited shooting in this district, but you have to react quickly, or the moment is gone. Also, is it just me, or did they add more stairs to the mid levels?

I’ve restarted my #bhthkneon project again,starting with my favourite neon sign in Mong Kok. I’m also experimenting with the new @lightlenslab 50mm f/1.9 Super-Six (frame 1, 4, 6) on my @leica_camera M7, and testing re-spooled movie film Vandal 400 (based on @kodakprofessional Vision 3). The rest of the images captured with the 28mm Summicron v.1.

Portrait of Billy from All Good Friend Camera, and Mr.David Chan and Peter. The rest of the images were just some random street photos all over Hong Kong. More images to come. I re-started this project late into this trip, so I don’t know if I’ll have time to finish what I wanted to do. Also, many of the signs I captured are now gone. My first roll of film for my #bhthk2026 project. I started the roll on Monday and finished it this afternoon. I used @candidocollective 800 rated at ISO 500 and processed normally. Captured with the @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron-M V.1 and @lightlenslab 50mm f/1.9 Super-Six for the more compressed images.

The film is a bit grainy, but for these gritty street photos, it’s perfect. I dropped the film off today and got my scans within a couple of hours. All dev + high resolution TIFF scans by @camerafilmphoto in Hong Kong. Even if you aren’t here in Hong Kong, I find it’s cheaper to ship your film here than getting it done in many regions of the world. Email them for details.

Also, don’t forget to register for my two Roll Drop guided photowalks while I’m here in Hong Kong. Link in my description or go to Camera Film Phot’s website to register. The cost includes a roll of film and dev + scan. We’re going to try and get it processed and scanned the same day so we can all share our results on IG if possible.

My infamous ‘Hong Kong Roll Call’ will be held this Saturday, September 12th and and Sunday, September 13th with myself and @camerafilmphoto. On Saturday we will shoot colour film in the colourful Central District, and Sunday we will shoot black and white in Sham Shui Po district, rain or shine.

Check out the link in my description or go to @camerafilmphoto’s webiste to register with exact information on time and location. Maximum 8 participants per walk. I’ll have a special guest on both days :-) At the end of each walk I’m going to rush back to the lab and try to get all films scanned and sent to you via Dropbox the same day. We can all share in real time :-)

🔴 Don’t forget the two photowalks I’m hosting while in Hong Kong in collaboration with @camerafilmphoto this coming Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we will be in Central, while Sunday we will be in Sham Shui Po. Details on Camera Film Photo website or use link in my description. By invitation from both Chef @uweo of @restaurant_petrus and chef @carydocherty of @lobsterbarhk, myself and @4thdimension.pics were allowed to spend time in the kitchen during lunch and dinner service. I was intrigued by the juxtaposition of energy between back-of-house (kitchen) and front-of-house (dining area).

To be honest, I preferred being in the middle of the action in the kitchen compared to being a normal person and just enjoy the dining experience. If fact a few times, Chef Uwe encouraged us to stop shooting and go back to enjoy the food he just prepared!! The intense atmosphere of the kitchen reminded me of when I shot professional football over 20 years ago for the CFL. Action is action.

Thank you both Chef Uwe and Chef Cary for feeding and entertaining us during our Hong Kong Confidential project at the @islandshangrila. Special thanks to fellow Canadian Chef Cary who made us a special Sunday roast meal and broke bread with us. Stay tuned for our full Youtube video on our experience.

The Luxury of Time: Act I. @4thdimension.pics and I spent a week at the @islandshangrila hotel in Hong Kong to start chapter 1 of my Hong Kong Confidential project.

We’re exploring the definition of luxury in relation to time. Time spent with family and friends. Time spent on our passions and interests. Time spent on our physical and mental health. Do we consider how we spend our time and the value it adds to our lives, as luxury?

The Island Shangrila-La Hotel became our home base for a week as we began preparing for this project. Stay tuned for more content here as well as on YouTube. Thanks to the entire @shangrilahotels team for making our stay memorable.

As we walk around the Salon de Time at the @hktdclifestyle Watch and Clock Fair, we’ve bumped into other media personalities, but no fellow YouTubers, until now. For the first time on BHT, I welcome @adrianbarker of @barkandjack.

We’ve both been fans of each others’ channels, but we’ve never had the opportunity to meet until now. What better place to meet than at a watch show, and in my favourite city of Hong Kong. Stay tuned for my full YouTube video in collaboration with @4thdimension.pics soon!
