Busted a batter head (first one in months!) and didn’t even call Angry Bear on the talkback, I just chucked the primary and a few seconds later a grumpy ol’ grizzly threw that back up into place like Curry, calm with it in front of 20k people, Bear don’t break a sweat throwing snares back into place!

Jon added “All Time High” back into the set this weekend so the old shenanigans were afoot. Bear knew that the video team and I have a running bet on how high I can toss after that fill, so he snagged the almost-catastrophe, Matt & Quinn give the love. 😂

So the new extra matrix my monitor engineer built is up and running, providing me with my ear mix of JUST drums, no click, count, or other instruments. Capturing it this way also relives me of the hyper-compressed sound of the EAD10 and other sources, which I like. What you hear is what I hear, just stripped of everything else on deck, with just whatever bleeds into my mics. I like it and it’s giving me some perspective on adjustments I’m going to try!

Here’s a fun chunk of “Last Night Lonely” with some split screens for the fast fill and the pyro team’s nightly efforts. Good times.

Getting the audio sussed out, finally! This is pretty close. Still needs a tweak or two for enough level but I’m happy to have a clean base of just my drum mix for y’all.
.
Here’s a fun little section of a song called “Friday Night Heartbreaker” from the Honkytonk Hollywood record we did with him. It’s a fun moment at the end of this clip when Matt on organ and I match Jon’s vocal rhythm to spike the start of Chorus 2… cheers!

It seems my feed likes BTS stuff, and today at soundcheck my cowbell provided an opportunity.

No hot licks today (not that any Arlene THAT hot, really) but it’s mid-week which is a great time to post the blue collar drumming, just sitting down in something for the comfort of everyone else on deck.

This song is called “She Ain’t In It”, and it’s a favorite spot in the set list for me. I can just commit myself to pushing it along and let everyone else shimmer on it. Good times.

All of my mics are unpatched for a room shift but had one over in the corner still rockin’, so I armed it and sat down to see what happened before a lesson yesterday. I wanted a little ‘echo’ vibe.
.
I like it. I think I’ll develop it more, maybe use the 16th note pattern to work some hand to hand dynamics where one is in decrescendo while the other increases in volume. That might be weird/hard/fun/dorky
.
Quiet and purposeful, felt nice in the moment. Fun beat!

I post a lot of “moments” here where I kinda get away with stuffing some drummy work into the country musics, but mostly it isn’t about that. That’s algo-feeding.
.
Most of the nights lean towards the “what does it need and how can it feel better?” stuff.
.
Not as shocking or “fun” from a social media perspective, but 90% of the work!
.
*I toss the tambo because normally I wait even longer and there is only time to yeet it towards Bear, my wrist hurt a bit this night so it was much calmer and earlier than most nights*
