BIG SEE In Tirana is postponed.

Due to the current situation in Tirana, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event, originally scheduled for 22 October. We explored every alternative until the last moment.

The event is postponed, not cancelled. We remain committed to bringing everyone together in Tirana and will share the new date as soon as it is confirmed.

A hotel in Saranda that doesn’t compete with the sea, it listens to it.

Avanel Signature Hotel by Zifle Architects is built around one consistent idea: that the horizon is not a backdrop, but the central design element. Slanted geometric forms and vertical rhythms create movement in the façade, while large glazed surfaces dissolve the boundary between interior and seascape. Balconies are not afterthoughts, they are part of the composition.

This November, one conversation worth making the trip to Zagreb for.

Oris Day brings together this year's Pritzker Prize laureate Smiljan Radić Clarke and Swiss architect Christian Kerez for a live dialogue on architecture, the creative process and the questions that don't come with easy answers.

The programme also features lectures by three Croatian practices: NEKOLIKO, Krešimir Damjanović and SKUP-A.

In the Albanian Alps, a cluster of timber houses sits in the landscape of Valbona as though it has always been there.

Each room is a separate house, oriented in a different direction, creating different views of the surrounding mountains. The whole site is organised like a mountain climb.

Roof forms and shingle cladding drawn directly from the traditional houses of the region. Local construction techniques. An architecture that becomes a continuation of what already exists.

Built in 1988 as a museum dedicated to a dictator. Abandoned for decades. Nearly demolished. The Pyramid of Tirana chose a different ending.

The existing concrete structure was kept intact and opened entirely to the city. New steps climb the sloping façades. Colourful volumes inside accommodate education, culture, work and community life. A complex inheritance reinterpreted as an open platform for the city.

Corner 379 chose not to add to the visually chaotic urban environment, but to answer it.
 A residential building on a corner site in Tirana, wrapped in a curved travertine façade that follows the street geometry, with perforated metal elements that animate the building through changing light across the day.

Six floors. A ground-floor passage connecting street to courtyard. Simplicity and restraint as a deliberate design position.

A school in Kamëz that refused to be just a school.
“Architecture is never neutral, it’s a civic act with social and political consequences.”

That is the position Commonsense Studio brought to this brief. The result: 1,300 students, a fully energy self-sufficient building, and a public space that belongs to the whole neighbourhood.
