My kindergarten graduate and yes, dad brought the FX2.
Watching Zoe hit this milestone reminded me why I do this: these are the frames you don’t get back.

Prom night, the way you’ll actually remember it.
Not the posed smiles you tolerated. The lift. The kiss. The way they looked at each other when no one was watching. The hands you’ll still recognize twenty years from now.

I’ve seen one of these in the wild. Glacier National Park 2014 hiking in the middle of nowhere. Found fresh paw prints in the dirt and followed them with my eyes long enough to spot her moving through the tree line maybe thirty yards out. For a second, all I felt was awe. Pure, quiet awe. Then reality crashed in fast. This is an apex predator and I am very much on the menu. I backed out slow and didn’t stop moving until the trailhead was behind me.
Years later, this one let me get close. Tucked in the hay, framed by the wood, still as stone, but those eyes never stopped tracking. Same animal. Same calm that isn’t really calm. I got the shot this time. She let me.
