Approximately two years ago, I stood outside the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building in Washington, D.C. J. Edgar Hoover oversaw COINTELPRO, the FBI’s Counterintelligence Program, which targeted organizations including the Black Panther Party, Nation of Islam, SNCC, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s SCLC. Through surveillance, infiltration, and efforts to create division, the FBI helped weaken organizations fighting for Black empowerment and civil rights. Some buildings represent chapters of history that deserve a closer examination. Know your history. Freedom Ain’t Too Bad Presents: The Little Things That Matter 🥧 I fell in love with bean pies as a young boy. During my 23 years of incarceration, they were one of the foods I missed. Now, MashaAllah, I have the freedom to enjoy one whenever I choose. It’s not really about the bean pie. It’s about having the freedom to make that choice. It’s the little things that matter! #FreedomAintTooBad #TheLittleThingsThatMatter #PrisonSurvivorNetwork #2ndChanceBooksOfficial #BeanPie by @bilalrasulofficial

ABC Prison Survival: D Is for Discipline I shared this video about a year ago, but it’s a reminder that discipline matters. The lessons I learned during 23 years of incarceration continue to guide me today. #ABCPrisonSurvival #Discipline #FreedomAintTooBad #LifeAfterPrison #Reentry BilalRasul by @bilalrasulofficial
🎯 TAKE THE SHOT! You may miss once, twice, or ten times. But if you stop shooting, you’ll never hit your mark. Thanks to my brother, Dr. Hasshan Batts, and to those who encourage, challenge, and correct us out of love. Keep shooting. Keep growing. 🎯 #FreedomAintTooBad #PrisonSurvivorNetwork #TakeTheShot #Persistence #KeepPushing by @bilalrasulofficial
Tupac Had His Contradictions. So Did I. Freedom Ain’t Too Bad 1993 takes me back to a period in my life when what I believed and how I lived didn’t always match. I was Muslim, but I was caught up in things that went against my faith. That’s one reason I could relate to Tupac. He came from a family rooted in the Black Panther movement, yet the streets also became part of his story. Years later, while visiting Morocco, I saw Tupac represented on clothing and through graffiti. His influence had reached across the ocean. Sometimes looking back at someone else’s story causes us to reflect on our own. We all have contradictions. The question is what we learn from them. #FreedomAintTooBad #Tupac #2Pac #1993 #SelfReflection Morocco LifeAfterPrison by @bilalrasulofficial
