🧙🏻‍♂️ Lord of the Rings Collector

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Flashback to when I got my axe signed by John Rhys-Davies. It was a smaller happening in Sweden with a really short queue, so he really took his time. He jokinngly asked many times how I was going to hang it on the wall while he was holding it in different ways so that he would get his signature the right way. "Like this? Like this? Like this? Or like this? Are you sure? Not like this? Like this? Ok!"

Have you met John and if you have, how was it?

The first translation of any of Tolkien's work to another language. This is Hompen (The Hobbit) translated to swedish and released 1947.

Tolkien wasn't involved and had nothing kind to say about the book, see below:

Writing to Allen & Unwin in 1956 on the Dutch translation of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien says:
"I wish to avoid a repetition of my experience with the Swedish translation of The Hobbit. I discovered that this had taken unwarranted liberties with the text and other details, without consultation or approval; it was also unfavourably criticized in general by a Swedish expert, familiar with the original, to whom I submitted it."
― J.R.R. Tolkien

Later in the same year and writing on the same subject, Tolkien more specifically points out a source of dislike with Hompen to Rayner Unwin:

"May I say now at once that I will not tolerate any similar tinkering with the personal nomenclature. Nor with the name/word Hobbit. I will not have any more Hompen (in which I was not consulted), nor any Hobbel or what not."
― J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition surprise-dropped almost two weeks ago. Meanwhile, here I am with the original game on my PS3, alongside the troll statue from the Collector’s Edition and the Japanese release.

As tempting as it is to jump straight into the new release, I’m going to wait for the confirmed physical release. Some games just deserve a spot on the shelf.

Did you play War in the North back in the day? What did you think of it? Or what do you think of the Legacy Edition so far?

Can't complain when it comes to the pulls of my first collector booster pack from The Hobbit (MTG). What are your best pulls?

I have started to fill the gaps in my Lord of the Rings games collection (modern era). Which one’s the best in your opinion? Any cool editions I’m missing?

Got this signed by Andy Serkis (Sméagol / Gollum) a while back and I had to get it framed!

I always spend way too much time thinking about what item I should get signed when the opportunity arises…

What would you get signed by him if you had the chance?
