Through our slogans, the rhetoric of our struggles and the discourse of our movements change. Together, we will explore how slogans, chants, and banners reflect the political contexts and struggles they emerge from. In this workshop, we look at political expressions to learn from each other’s protest cultures and the contexts around them. Bring your own in any language, old or new, written or sang! Together, we will discuss: How do our demands change, and whom are they addressed to? When do slogans begin to be chanted in the streets, and what has changed since then? How do they echo in the media?

By looking across different places, decades, and movements, we will explore how protest language travels transnationaly, transforms, and connects our struggles, and what these connections can tell us about the movements we are part of today.

*The discussion will be audio recorded as an act of counter-archiving. This atelier is part of an ongoing research project, to be used in an upcoming publication, a completely independent & voluntary scheme.
