After our last mentorship session with the girls in kakuma, I visited REF FM radio station for an empowerment program in kalobeyei settlement.While I was there, I heard some truly heartbreaking stories of women in a reception center. Many of them are forced to isolate themselves during their periods due to a lack of sanitary pads. Some, tragically, even resort to selling their bodies just to afford basic menstrual products.
Deeply moved by what I heard, I reached out to some friends, and together we were able to bring a bit of relief and put smiles on the faces of these women. A huge thank you to Awuoi Mach and all the incredible women who were touched by these stories and stepped up to help.
This experience opened my eyes to just how many women might be willing to share their menstrual products with those in need whether in reception centers or refugee camps. I’m now considering starting a GoFundMe to help gather donations and support for this cause, so that no woman has to suffer in silence or be forced to make painful choices just to manage her period. by @biliny_mabil

These girls don’t just need pads ,they need mentorship, guidance, and someone to remind them that their well-being and mental health matter too. The current, rapidly increasing crisis doesn’t mean their mental and emotional world pauses; if anything, it needs more care than ever. By stepping in, we can help them step free. Sometimes, I still wonder what life would have been like if you were still here. There is so much I wish you could have seen, so much I wish I could have told you, and so many moments I wish I could have shared with you.

I was still so young when you left, and life has taught me lessons I sometimes wish I didn’t have to learn without you. I’ve had to grow, find my own strength, and face a world that hasn’t always been kind. Through it all, there have been moments when I wished I could run to my dad, hear his voice, or simply feel the comfort of knowing he was there.

Seventeen years later, and there is still a part of me that wishes I could have had more time with you. More memories. More conversations. More of your love and guidance.

I wish you could see the woman I’m becoming. I wish you could see how far I’ve come and all the things I’ve had to overcome. Sometimes, I wonder if you’d be proud of me. I hope you would be.

Honestly, Dad, this year has been one of the hardest years of my life mentally. There have been moments when the weight of everything I’ve been carrying felt unbearable, moments when I felt so lost and exhausted that I wished I could simply be with you in heaven. I’ve fought battles that so many people know nothing about, and there have been days when finding the strength to keep going felt like a battle in itself. Sometimes, I wish I could have one moment with you, just to rest my head on your shoulder and feel safe again. I miss having a father in a world that can be so cruel sometimes. I wish you were here to remind me that everything would be okay.

Time has passed but the fact that you’re no longer here is something I will never fully get used to. Some losses don’t get smaller with time,we simply learn to carry them differently.

May your soul continue to rest in eternal peace, Dad. Wherever you are, I hope you know that you are loved, remembered and missed more than words could ever explain.
